HomeLab In-home pollution is a pervasive problem, but most are unaware of what's in their air. HomeLab wants

Indoor air quality is 2-5 times worse than outdoors and it is a top 5 environmental risk to public health according to the EPA. We spend 90% of our time indoors, and breathe 11,000 liters of air each day, but while we are aware of what goes in our food and filter our water, what we breathe goes largely unoticed. HomeLab is out to raise public awareness of indoor pollution, offer easy no/low cost air quality testing for homeowners, and make it simple to clean up your air.

A study was recently published showing a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor particulates when opening the windows to add ventilation, confirming that we let pollution in. It also reiterates that a "leaky" building can bring in particulates as well.

Thank you, Dr. Fuoco and team, for providing further evidence on why we should ventilate properly, seal and purify!

We met a homeowner yesterday with VOCs leaking from their pressed-wood cabinets. By opening the right windows and using exhaust fans, we created a layman ventilation system until a more permanent solution arrived. By the time we left VOC readings from the monitor were green.

Indoor air quality was recently linked to our cognitive abilities through a study led by the Harvard School of Public Health. Higher cognitive scores were shown with increased ventilation and less carbon dioxide and VOCs.

A great line by the lead author of the study, Joseph Allen, went like this “We’ve been ignoring the 90%. We spend 90% of our time indoors yet indoor environmental quality and its impact on health… are often an afterthought.”

Our thoughts exactly Dr. Allen. Let's change that.
