We had a great time coding with elementary school aged students over Fall Break! Inside one of their favorite games (win for them!), they practiced spatial thinking on a 3D coordinate plane, used block code to build Fall/Halloween-based structures, and worked together as teams to design and present their creations in shared worlds (win for teachers and parents!).

Thanks for hosting us, Ironwood Crossing Community Center!

We loved our Q1 Lego Robotics club at Queen Creek Elementary School and are excited to be back on Mondays for Q2! Expand your child's coding skills and join us for an additional coding club on Thursdays beginning next week - we'll use Minecraft Education to build in Minecraft using code.

Lego Robotics on Mondays - very tangible project-based learning that includes simple structural engineering concepts and understanding basic machinery through building. Students use mechanical Lego add-ons and code their Lego-builds to move.

Minecraft Coding on Thursdays - develop math skills (think coordinates & graphs) and learn coding basics as students learn coding skills to code (rather than build block by block) creative designs on the Minecraft platform in a special version called Minecraft Education.

Register today! After-school clubs from 3:00-4:15 beginning the week of October 20th:

Who is having more fun at our First Lego League practices - our coaches or the students on our teams?!? 😍

This year's competition theme, Unearthed, has us excavating artifacts using grids, imagining tools we could use at dig sites, and watching as the kids tap into their inner-archeologist-engineering spirit to design, experiment, and create stationary and robotic pieces for their festival presentations.

Has the first quarter of the school year flown by? Fall break is almost here! Plan now to keep your elementary aged kids learning (while having fun!) during our two weeks off. This K-6th class is for brand new and experienced coders (welcome back to our summer break camp kids who have registered already!). We will have multiple teachers at the camp so we are able to divide the students up into age and experience level groups.

Wondering what the value is in coding in Minecraft Education?

✅ We aren't just playing Minecraft - we're using block code to teach your student how to design a structure and use code to build it!
✅ Coding in Minecraft requires creativity, planning, and problem-solving.
✅ The code students design gives them hands-on, project-based-learning experience in graphing (Minecraft worlds are on a grid and we code on that grid) and using 3D space.
✅ Ultimately, coding in Minecraft teaches students how to combine creativity, project management, problem-solving, coding and even math skills into a game they already love!

🚨 Computer Science Missing in Action - Especially for Girls 🚨

Despite 60% of U.S. high schools offering computer science, only 6.4% of students take a foundational course.

Even more concerning? Just 32.5% of those students are girls.
We can't wait until high school. The key to true equity and engagement lies in early exposure — in K–6 classrooms, afterschool clubs, and enrichment programs that spark curiosity and confidence from a young age.

At Wize Computing Academy®, we’re on a mission to empower the next generation of problem solvers, innovators, and creators — starting as early as age 5.

💡Let’s reimagine computer science education — inclusive, inspiring, and early.

LEGO Can Improve Math and Spatial Ability in Elementary Students

https://phys.org/news/2025-06-lego-math-spatial-ability-elementary.html

A simple classroom activity involving a classic childhood staple, LEGO, could improve children's math and spatial ability, leading researchers to demand for policymakers to shake up school curricula and teachers' professional development.

Young learners at QCUSD elementary schools aren’t JUST coding. 💻 They’re becoming tech literate, they’re problem solving, thinking critically 🧠 and learning to be adaptable, they’re collaborating with peers 🧒 and teachers, learning to communicate about problems and solutions, they’re tapping into their creativity. 🖼️

What do these 1st-6th graders think they’re doing most of the time? Having fun! 🤩
