Jeremejevite vs. Hauyne

Jeremejevite is an aluminium borate mineral with variable fluoride and hydroxide ions. It is considered as one of the rarest, thus one of the most expensive stones. For nearly a century, it was considered as one of the rarest gemstones in the world.

Hauyne or haüyne, also called hauynite or haüynite, old name Azure spar, is a rare tectosilicate sulfate mineral. It is a feldspathoid and a member of the sodalite group.

The Sierra Pelona Rock Club Took Docents to Lavic Siding to Experience Rock Collecting

The Sierra Pelona Rock Club was asked if they could invite docents from Placerita Canyon Nature Center to their next field trip. We decided to take them to Lavic Siding Site A and to Hector Hills next door. We had a total of 17 on the trip.

The first site was full of beautiful red jasper, just lying on the ground waiting to be picked up. There were also lava bombs found everywhere you turned. There are 3 extinct volcanoes in the immediate area, hence the lava fields

Over the course of the day we visited Lavic Siding and Hector Hills where a lot of butterscotch-colored jasper and moss agate could be found in addition to the red jasper.

Such a wonderful way to explore our beloved rock fields and enjoy it with such great people of the Placerita Canyon Nature Center. We all enjoyed a warm day with a cool breeze, roads that were flat and accessible; and in the end, we all came home loaded down with rocks and great memories—which is always the point!
