♡ THIS IS IT ♡
Breathing in, I calm body and mind. Breathing out, I smile.
Dwelling in the present moment,
I know this is the only moment.
~ Thich Nhat Hanh, Being Peace

I woke up today to a “Facebook memory” from many years ago with these words. Thich Nhat Hanh’s gentle wisdom reminding to return to myself, to this moment, with softness and a smile.

Whenever I am feeling scattered, scared, overexcited, am getting ahead of myself - or simply want to embody a sense of spaciousness and grace, I return to his teachings. How powerful to know, he provides such space and guidance for so many.

Thich Nhat Hahn’s wisdom will continue to carry us through. In gratitude and softness, may his memory be a blessing 🙏✨🤍

Counting Breath is easy + effective way to cool yourself down by slowing your breath 🌬 matching the length of your exhales to your inhales.

It is especially helpful when you are feeling super anxious, excited, overwhelmed, or worried and find it hard to focus or make sense of your thoughts.

This is a great tool for all ages! You can use anytime you need it. It’s also great to use during any opening, closing, or transition routine at home or in class.

Our mind loves to attach to things, and many times listening to the sound of our breath in order to tune into a mindful moment isn't enough! Counting breath helps to clear away distracting thoughts by focusing on counting.

Start simply as you inhale while counting silently 1, 2, 3. Then exhale while counting silently 3, 2, 1. Try that a few times. When you are ready, you can breath in and out to the count of 4, then 5.

~ MAKE SPACE IN YOUR MIND FOR NEW SEEDS TO GROW ~

Welcome to a new moon, week, month, and year!!! 💫💫💫

A pretty awesome and on-the-nose opportunity to check in, reflect back, and dream forward…

If you’re experiencing time anything like me lately, it all seems to be blurring together. Making time to pause + call back the moments this past year that made you smile, along with the more difficult you have endured, been challenged by, and learned from - is such a worthwhile reminder to the mind + body of your capacity to access joy and resilience.

Something I’m aiming to keep top of mind is when I act from a place of genuine kindness — toward myself and toward others, I second guess myself a whole lot less and have much more time and space to breathe easy…

A few prompts to support you in reflecting on the past and preparing for what you want to move toward (and away from) in the year ahead, one day at a time (*adjust as needed :)) :

* What lessons did you learn this past year?

* What did you discover about yourself?

* How did you show up for yourself?

* Where can you offer yourself and others forgiveness, more compassion?

* In what ways can you be kinder to yourself? Others?

* Who and/or what activities brought you the greatest sense of comfort?

* What have you been avoiding? Are you ready to face it? What would it take?

* What do you want to do more/less of this week/year?

* What do you need reminding of? How can you offer that to yourself? (ie: sticky notes, Siri, journaling, tell a friend, etc…)

Wishing you a year of spaciousness, growth, and enriching experiences…and always love + kindness 🌱 🙏 ✨

❄️ Winter Solstice Reflections ❄️

The solstice marks the beginning of a new cycle, a turning point, and opportunity to learn from and witness the significance of the darkness around and within us.

Through accepting and holding space for what at first appears dark, we can eventually appreciate that our experience of light would not be possible without it. ✨

Take some time to reflect on the past year with grace and gratitude, fully choosing what you need to complete, and release. Acknowledge your experiences as you let go of old patterns. Note what you have, and the opportunity to dream new intentions for this new cycle. Write them down and/or share with others to amplify your commitment. It is powerful to ritualize letting go through a fire ceremony or other gesture of release.

〰️ a simple practice 〰️

light a candle

take a deep breath to center, and then focus on the flame

acknowledge one thing that has been challenging or difficult for you this past month, season, or year

name one thing that this challenge has taught you, or how it has helped you to grow

as you blow out the candle, let the difficulty dissolve with it

*trust that all the light you need has always been within*

This solstice comes with a theme of responsibility and taking your life, self care, service in the world, relationships, thoughts, and actions more seriously. We are moving into a time of greater maturity in how we step forward into the unknown….

Inward + Onward … 💫

connect to calm this holiday with finger tracing breath ✋

make it festive + kid-friendly by combining this breathing practice with actually tracing your hand on paper and coloring/decorating it to look like a turkey! 🦃

Pausing to call to mind and give attention to life’s positives, especially the small or subtle things we often take for granted, has the capacity to shift our perspective; to notice and remind us of the ways in which we are supported.

This is not to suggest neglecting or bypassing what is currently challenging or weighing us down. During these times, however, the practice becomes that much more important.

When we are feeling low, it is easy (and understandable) to become completely absorbed in everything else that is also going wrong. When we encourage ourselves to reflect on what there is still to appreciate, we allow BOTH to exist. We allow ourselves to soften and expand our scope of focus.

So whether you are currently stuck in a blah state of mind or looking to kick off your morning from a place of appreciation, get the juices flowing by taking a moment to consider:

* what is something in your current purview that you enjoy?

* who is someone who makes you feel safe or understood?

* what is a quality about yourself you consider to be a strength?

“To live a life of gratitude is to open our eyes to the countless ways we are supported by the world around us.”

🤍 to all of you in need of a reminder/permission/pep talk >>>

you’ve heard it before, but it bears repeating: you cannot serve from an empty vessel.

self-care is *so important*. when you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve from the overflow…

honor yourself with the space and time to refill your cup — however you can: listening to a favorite song; taking a walk, a bath, a nap, a 10 min TO; treating yourself to something scrumptious; reading inspiring words; scheduling a therapy session…

how do you make time to nurture and nourish yourself? what’s something you can do for yourself today?
