As one of our physicians says, “You can’t save the world.”

Sometimes it surely feels that way. This patient has consistently missed treatments and finally showed up as he was having some pain. It’s clearly infected and understandable of why he has elevated pain. Contacted the MD and was placed on antibiotics.

Fast forward through the weekend. The patient no shows therapy and the MD. Received an email asking us when they can come in as they lost their orthosis that is supposedly full time wear. We have not heard back after replying to the email.

Anyone else have experiences like this? How did you address it?

💢I love fabricating orthoses on kids. It’s a lot of fun but can also be very challenging. This is a 3 yo who underwent B congenital trigger thumb releases just over a month ago. He continues to have a slight flexion contracture of B IPs.

Today we fabricated B HFO with the IPs held into a comfortable stretch to work on reducing the contractures. He will wear these at night and return to have them adjusted when they see the MD again.

He was very intrigued by the material and allowed me to fabricate the first orthosis. He quickly changed his mind and wanted it off. Luckily it was cured. We fine tuned it by adding some edging and the strap. We had to get creative for the second orthosis. He was not having it….until chocolate was involved!! He again became interested and allowed me to fabricate the second orthosis, although, it was clear he wasn’t a fan! I completed the second and now had to get them both on. Turns out he is a fan of the cartoon so we drew Number 1 on the R and Number 2 on the L. This made him smile which made mom smile.

Overall he did great!!! We are hoping he doesn’t fight them too much. Maybe being B it will be harder to remove. Wish us luck!
