The TruBlu Movement

We were just two kids in love when we tied the knot on June 5, 2004. All we knew was that we loved each other, and we wanted to let the world know. We had our first child, a beautiful baby girl, who we named Makayla in November 2005. She was perfect in every way, our beautiful gift from God. She is a gifted dancer and trained in ballet, tap, hip-hop and contemporary dance.

When Makayla was just four years old, God added to our family and we were blessed with our first-born son, Jason aka Jay-Jay in October 2009. We couldn’t have been happier. We had our baby girl with pretty bows, and now our bouncing baby boy. After all He’s Jason Jr, his father’s namesake. We were so blessed, and we were living the American dream.

That dream soon turned a bit grim when we realized that something wasn’t quite right. Of course, we were excited, and we love our son very much, but we knew something was wrong. At only two years old Jay-Jay was diagnosed with severe autism. I know... Those words were hard to hear. Not only did Jay-Jay have autism, but he was non-verbal for 8 years (Speaking his first words June 2018). He also has adhd, and defiant disorder. This oftentimes makes our days much longer and nights even shorter. We realized early on that Jay Jay needed specialized care and we sought out the best of the best in doctors and case studies, but nothing seemed to help. Where do we go from here?

We were living our lives and creating our “normal” when God added yet again to our family. I can remember the day we found out that we were having another boy. What joy filled our hearts. This was it! This was our second chance! God blessed us to have a wonderful healthy baby boy in July 2012. We named him John. He is always a joy, and absolutely loves adventures. But by the time John turned 2, we realized once again that something just wasn’t right. We took him to the doctor, and he confirmed that what we felt was right. He is not considered severely autistic, but he is on the spectrum.
