During times of stress and overwhelm, paying attention to what we are consuming, how we are behaving and the words we choose to respond to the world with, matter.
Noticing how much time you spend scrolling or watching the news, how you are responding to everyday moments in the car, at work, at home - and the words you choose to put into the world can have a tremendous impact on what our children are learning is healthy. When our actions, behavior and language don't align with how we hope our children will be in the world, they miss out on the ability to develop healthy coping strategies and responses to their most challenging moments.
Allowing your child to see how you regulate yourself (or how you recover from a not-so-skillfully handled moment) is some of the best skill-building and learning that can be modeled. Being human is hard and it's important to acknowledge while also providing opportunities for us to learn with and for our child.
