“I’m just me. I’m just a loquat.“

There was a loquat tree in our neighbors house growing up that would reach over into our backyard. It extended so far into our yard that, for the longest time, I thought it was OUR tree. I would climb our wooden fence and stand on my tippy-toes (most times with the help of my dad) to pick the fruits each season.

Up until a couple years ago, I had no idea what these fruits were called. They weren’t quite apricots, but they weren’t quite guavas, and they certainly weren’t kumquats, so what the heck were they? I couldn’t help but compare this identification game to my own personal experiences. “You’re not quite Mexican, but you’re not quite Native, and you’re certainly not White, so what the heck are you?”

I know to some, existing within multiple identities can seem disorienting and ungrounding. But shifting the narrative from “I don’t belong to any of these” to “I belong to ALL of these” activates the roots, spirits, and teachings that came before you to create the unrepeatable being you are today. There’s no explanation needed when you own ALL facets of your existence. I’m just me. I’m just a loquat.

I’m excited to share that I will having a solo show at the Scott’s Valley Library that will run from July 6 - Sept 28! The last time I had an art show at this scale was June of 2022, so this collection will be featuring a lot of NEW artwork I have created over the past couple years.

My art has been a way for me to process my internal and external world. Because of this, my pieces are a reflection of childhood memories, exploration of cultural identity, and an expression of human connection. I am excited to extend this piece of myself to the public once again. I hope you all come by to indulge in the arts, while also supporting the valuable work of our local libraries!

Growing up, I was a pretty shy and quiet kid. Whenever I had the opportunity to be alone, I would go sit outside on the porch or walk around our front yard to absorb my surroundings. We had endless flowers growing along all perimeters of our house year round.

My parents loved to garden; still do.

There were thick vines of brilliant, violet morning glories that lined our shared chainlink fence that would pull me towards them. Despite being scared of the plump, black carpenter bees that were almost always present, the morning glories would invite me in, their vines extending, reaching for my accompaniment. Life would pause even if for a second, and I would allow myself to be fully enveloped in their nurturing presence.

Over the years, they disappeared from our house. I suppose, so did we. Still, every time I get a chance to drive by and see that fence, all I can remember is the gentle, intimate moments and conversations we shared together for years. I hold on tight to those💜

Conexión • Turning inward is what brings me peace, guidance and truth. The land never lies, and sends deep ancestral wisdom through the plants, the animals, the elements. All I have to do is listen; and when my heart and mind connect, that’s when I know.

Raíces • I am so honored to be able to bring this piece to life. All of my work explores identity, culture, and memories in one form or another, and I wanted to tie all of those themes together through this declaration of self. I honor my roots and connection to self, which is a connection to everything ever created; past, present, future. How rewarding to be anointed enough to carry this sacredness within me… ✨

Ancestors bringing me closer and closer to Creator✨

The journey ain’t always easy but it always proves worthy. This weekend was Navajo New Year and was also MexiPino Festival. Upon arrival, my hawk slowly flew from behind me, over my head, and around the perimeter of the venue before taking off… I was speechless. And honored.

It’s in these moments that I’m clearly reminded that what I do is not in vain. Creating art and building community is part of my life’s path and part of what connects me to Creator. Ghąąji’ or October is also a time of preparation, reflection and renewal so I am excited about the transformation this season will bring. Forever blessed and humbled to have such strong reminders to continue exploring, growing, and leading with Love. Ahéhee’

Happy Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month, amiguis!💐🎉

National Hispanic/Latine Heritage Month is celebrated from Septmber 15 to October 15 each year, by honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors come from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. This month we honor our roots, our traditions, and the many triumphs our people have made and continue to make for nuestra raza. I’m always speechless and humbled when the universe sends me its messages...

I started working on this piece a couple weeks ago and I’m finishing it at the time of the Super Blue Moon. (Coincidence? I think not) I’ve been manifesting and preparing for a new chapter, a new challenge, a new environment. I feel myself cleaning house; getting rid of all the attachments, patterns, and energy that does not serve me, and that I cannot take into this next pathway of life. I’ve also been seeing a lot of Blue dragonflies very recently. Even as I walked outside to post this, one flew right past my face. Come to find out, dragonflies symbolize transformation, change, and growth. With these changes comes feelings of introspection, grief, and, anxiousness. But also confidence, bravery, and excitement for what’s to come.

As I continue to lean into the unknown, I’m forever grateful to have guides with me, reassuring me, encouraging me, and loving me every step of the way💙
