"Grace Led Doula Services! Where do I even start?!
When I found out I was pregnant a second time, I instantly felt terrified about the situation. This was because of the traumatic birth experience of my daughter that landed us in Children’s Hospital in Aurora for a period of time after she came out unresponsive at birth only a year before. We were told she would never live the life of a normal child, and spent the first year at appointment after appointment. Hindsight, God was working in the background of it all, and Klancee came out of a near death experience with only a story to tell.
Despite the miraculous outcome of my daughter, I did not feel mentally capable to potentially go through it all again, and instead felt guilt for possibly putting another child through a bad birthing experience.
This ate me up for about four months along with stress of moving, and all the unknowns that kept prevailing in our lives.
This is when Grace Led Doula Services came into the picture, and man was Lucinda a blessing to our family! I am usually reluctant to accept help, and do not enjoy sharing my deep down personal feelings. Especially about my daughter’s birth since it was such a hardship in our lives that I had not healed from. Despite this, I decided to call her, and at least talk to her after several individuals had recommended her to me. After only talking to her for a couple minutes, I burst into tears. I finally felt like I could be vulnerable and open about my prior birth experience, and had someone that could help me through the next. After Kayle and I met with Lucinda in person, he also instantly felt an ease of mind which was so uncommon for both of us during that time of our lives! We stayed in touch with Lucinda from then on about appointments, recommendations, and even just the occasional message from Lucinda checking in on me.
When 32 weeks rolled around, the fear crept back in. My main goal was to have a healthy baby after delivery, and I also wanted to try to have a natural birth with no interventions.
Lucinda kept reassuring me this was possible with the correct preparation, positioning, and mindset.
We stayed in close contact with Lucinda in the last weeks. She was also went above and beyond, and was a helping hand to us when last minute family situations arose. When the time came, Lucinda couldn’t have been more on top of it.
My water broke around midnight, and the contractions were instantly strong unlike when my water broke with my daughter. I instantly felt terrified and at unease going to Regional West in Scottsbluff especially since it is 50 minutes away from our house. We ended up making the last minute decision to go to Torrington hospital where we had never been before, but instead was 25 minutes away.
Lucinda talked me through the contractions over the phone until meeting her at the hospital. She helped me subside the fear of the past, and instead take one contraction at a time in the present. From then on, I was mentally prepared. I felt safe with her presence, and ready to do what we had planned for.
After letting him move down with gravity, I pushed through three contractions, and our HEALTHY son was born! What a surprise to us since we both thought we would have another daughter. The wait was well worth the surprise to say lightly!
Lucinda stayed with us into the morning until we were settled, and came back that evening again to check on us. We have stayed in touch with Lucinda afterwards with questions we have had, and also her checking in on us to see how our lives are going.
Lucinda has been with us every step of the way, and helped change our experience from one of fear, to one of redemption. We were able to obtain our goal of not only having a healthy baby, but also a natural birth with no interventions. The birth experience of our son, Kal, created healing from the past, and deepened our relationship with Christ. We can’t recommend Lucinda more to those who are expecting, and have been truly blessed to have her in our lives. Thank you, Lucinda!"
