☀️ Beat the Summer Flare: Smart Tips for Managing Arthritis This Season
With temperatures rising, arthritis flare‑ups can sneak up—especially when heat, humidity, and dehydration combine forces. Experts recommend these go-to strategies to keep symptoms in check:

1️⃣ Stay Hydrated & Cool 🧊
• Drink plenty of water to help lubricate joints—dehydration thickens synovial fluid, causing stiffness
• Use cold compresses or cool showers to soothe inflamed joints

2️⃣ Choose Gentle, Joint-Friendly Movement 🚶‍♀️
Stick with low-impact exercises—like swimming, walking in the early morning, yoga, or tai chi—to maintain

3️⃣ Honor Your Body’s Signals with Rest
Give yourself permission to slow down on hotter days. Rest in shade or air‑conditioned spaces to prevent overexertion and swelling

4️⃣ Dress for Comfort & Protection
Wear light, breathable fabrics. Stay in shaded areas or early/late hours to avoid direct sun and excessive heat exposure

5️⃣ Fuel Your Body with Anti-Inflammatory Nutrition
Fill your plate with hydrating fruits/veggies, leafy greens, fatty fish, nuts, and whole grains. Avoid sugary and ultra-processed foods that fuel inflammation.

6️⃣ Keep Ice & NSAIDs Handy
Topical NSAIDs and ice packs can ease sudden pain and swelling—apply early during flare‑ups

As we prepare for July 23rd - World Sjögren’s Day — we invite YOU to join the movement by taking the World Sjögren’s Day Pledge 💙

Sjögren’s is a complex autoimmune disease that often goes undiagnosed or misunderstood. Many patients face years of unanswered questions before receiving the care they need. But together, we can change that. It starts with awareness—and it starts with you.

The pledge is a simple but powerful way to stand in solidarity with those affected by Sjögren’s. Choose one (or more!) of these actions to make a difference:

✅ Wear BLUE on July 23
✅ Educate 5 people about Sjögren’s
✅ Share your personal journey 💬
✅ Donate to fuel research and awareness

💠 Bonus: Make a pledge in honor of someone special and add their name to the Digital Honor Wall.

🔁 The Progression of Rheumatoid Arthritis: What to Watch For

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) doesn’t strike all at once—it builds, often with subtle signs that are easy to overlook. Here’s how it typically progresses:

🔹 Stage 1: Early Clues

Fatigue (sometimes weeks before other symptoms!)
Morning stiffness lasting over 30 minutes
Mild joint pain in small joints like fingers or wrists
Low-grade fever or unexpected weight loss

🔹 Stage 2: Joint Changes Begin

Swelling, warmth, and tenderness—often in symmetrical joints
Pain that worsens with rest
Reduced mobility, numbness, or tingling
Visible joint changes or nodules

🔹 Stage 3: Whole-Body Impact
RA isn’t just a joint disease. It can affect the lungs, heart, eyes, and even skin, leading to serious complications if left untreated.

📅 If you’ve had joint pain, stiffness, or fatigue for more than 6 weeks, don’t wait.

💧 Survival Tips for Living with Sjögren’s 💧

Managing Sjögren’s isn’t just about treating symptoms—it’s about empowering yourself every day. Try these practical tips from the Sjögren’s Foundation:

✨ Tune into your body & advocate for yourself
Pay attention to new or worsening symptoms—and don’t hesitate to speak up. Be your own advocate, and find a doctor who coordinates your care.
✨ Stay informed & involved in decisions
Understand your medications (both prescription and OTC) and actively participate in treatment planning to improve care and reduce anxiety.
✨ Combat fatigue with strategy, not shame
Acknowledge tired days without guilt. Build a support network, delegate tasks, and rest when needed. “No” is a complete sentence!
✨ Healthy lifestyle = resilient life
Focus on anti-inflammatory nutrition, moderate exercise (like yoga), adequate sleep, stress reduction, and limiting caffeine/alcohol to ease brain fog and support rest.

📣 Let’s share this post to help others living with Sjögren’s! Encourage friends, family, and healthcare providers to read, learn, and support.
