Weirdest comment about diabetes. Oh, there's been a few. I've been offered sugar free gum for a low blood sugar. Been told how herbs and cinnamon can cure my diabetes. I was hosting a booth at a welness fair in college and when a girl found out I had diabetes, she said "I'll pray for you." 🤷🙄 But the comments I get the most revolve around how I don't "look" like I have diabetes. "You're too skinny, or too active to have diabetes." Well I'm here to say that there is no one way diabetes looks. It gets frustrating when people make comments that seem ignorant or insensitive, but I always try to take a deep breath, and take it as an opportunity to educate, because maybe they just don't know. And if they still try to get me to believe that herbs will cure my insulin dependent diabetes, 👋👋 (byeee).
And, yes. This is a photo of me biking with my dog child in the back.

Diabetes awareness month seems like the perfect time to start this thing I've been wanting to do. Get ready for your Mondays to be a little less Monday-ey. Every week I'll be bringing you a hack! I'm not the expert, and everyone's diabetes life is different, but I've had some major "aha!" moments where I learned things about managing my Type 1 diabetes that I wish I had known years ago. Every Monday I'll be sharing some of these pearls I've been collecting. If you have an awesome or an "aha moment" that should be shared, drop a comment or send me a DM so I can feature it. Knowledge is power! 💪
For today's , let me tell you about the power of the prebolus. Basically, if you give insulin for a higher carb food item 20-30 minutes before eating it, you'll see less of a spike in blood sugars than if you wait until after you've eaten it. That's my method whenever I eat my favorite food, which is donuts. 🍩🍩

It's finally starting to feel like fall! 🍂🍁 (At least in the mornings). Tried to do brunch outdoors at a restaurant, but it was busy and too hot to wait for a table. So, here's to another day of making food look fancy at home and pretending our back patio is a trendy restaurant. Hey, I'm not complaining. This restaurant is dog friendly, you don't have to wear shoes, you can choose your own music and the apple cider mimosas are bomb.com. 👌

Low blood sugar monster!! 😂🧟 Apparently, it's so let me share a little story about a crazy low blood sugar, and something called a "hypo hangover."

Last week while I was sleeping, I had one of those drench your sheets, can’t move but can’t sit still, eat all the snacks until you feel better kind of lows.

Totally didn't think about it at first, but the next day I felt hungover. (And there was zero alcohol involved). I had a bad headache, felt nauseous and had a lot of aches and stiffness in my shoulders and upper body. Legit, guys. I thought it might be the ‘Rona for a minute. But no, it was from this heckin low blood sugar.

Head to my website havepumpwilltravel.com for the full story of my low blood sugar woes and more on hypo hangovers. (Link in bio). Wondering if any of you have ever experienced a "hypo hangover"?
*Also, major regrets for not buying this dish towel.*

Naked shower! I'm so grateful to have access to technology to make my diabetes easier, but man is it a special moment when all the device sites are due for a change to have a diabetes-less shower (or "naked" shower in the diabetes world)!

Cheers if you also angry cried about diabetes this week. I fully believe in the power of positivity and that you've (I've) GOT THIS! But sometimes diabetes just sucks. And it's okay to be mad about it. It's fine. One of those moments. Just know, if you had one too you're not alone. Also, cheers to tomorrow being a better day!
