Who wouldn’t want to start their day hydrated, with a breakfast consisting of all of the essential nutrients for their day?

We will always tailor protocols to your unique needs or lab test results, but there is a foundational level of nutrition needed for humans to feel balanced. Energetic, yet calm. The start of a new month is a great time to reignite some positive energy into your mind and routine.

is here, we have some helpful reminders to be mindful of as you propel yourself into a better future (that’s right - only you have the power to make these changes in your life, we’re just the coach!)

☼ Focus on the things you can control.
Actions lead to change, if you can’t take action, then why expend the energy? Ex. You can’t necessarily stop working your job to reduce stress. But you can provide your body the targeted nutrients it needs to support your lifestyle.

☼ Celebrate the small wins.
When you have big goals, whether it’s eradicating the symptoms of a diagnosis, completing a degree, or losing weight, you have have to be proud of your achievements along the way. It only makes the journey that much sweeter, and keeps the motivation strong! Ex. If you make a nutritional shake every morning and complete an overnight 12-hour fast for a week, you get to reward yourself with a massage!

Not only do you become like the people you hang out with the most, but their words can become your inner voice. By choosing people who also want to move forward, do better, make positive choices, and speak life into you, the way you feel about yourself and your life only gets better!

The healthy woman you see in this photo is not the same person I was a year ago.

and - simultaneously.

Exhausted, anxious, underweight, weak, neverending headache, insomnia… the list of the symptoms I was experiencing was all-consuming.

Thanks to my education, insights from labs and personal experience, I now know how to restore balance in the body and help alleviate these symptoms - most in 12 weeks or less!

There’s a lot we as integrative health practitioners can do to support a client through improving their sleep. Here’s a few of my favorites!

1. Get in bed at 9:00 when your cortisol is at its lowest. Wait too long, and you can end up with that dreaded “second wind” or what many mistake as being a “night owl”. This is our natural diurnal rhythm, and fighting it will only lead to symptoms of insomnia or restlessness.

2. Begin winding down without electronics an hour before, ideally with a consistent bedtime routine to cue your brain for sleep (wash your face, brush teeth, read, turn on a diffuser, do a self message). Blue light really does impact your body’s natural secretion of melatonin. You can supplement with melatonin, but try to stick with the smallest effective dose, and stick with red light after 9:00 if necessary.

3. Watch the sun set. This also helps naturally regulate your diurnal rhythm. There’s a reason people feel so much better after a week spent camping!

4. Stop eating by 7:00, especially sugar to avoid blood sugar spikes. Even better, continue to fast for 12 hours every night. Your body use those restful hours to heal rather than expending energy on digestion. You’ll begin to feel greater energy during the day, too!

5. Plan to get 7-9 hours of sleep. Women often feel better on the higher end, as lack of sleep contributes anxiety, which causes a destructive cycle of thoughts keeping you awake at night, followed by continued lack of sleep.

I think it goes without saying, are not intended to replace a well-rounded diet. The thing is, even if we eat “healthy,” we’re often still missing the levels of key and minerals we need to feel our best.

☼ The fact is, our has become more and more depleted of nutrients over the decades.

☼ That translates to , even organically grown, with less nutrients than the identical one 50 years ago.

☼ For us, this means that we’re getting less of what we need in the same services of and as our grandparents did.

☼ The need for high quality supplements, especially during the first 12-16 weeks of a healing protocol to replenish our definiciences, is clear.

Our next informational post will share more about the second half of the equation - absorption. An unhealthy gut won’t necessarily absorb the nutrients we are consuming, so it’s crucial to follow a proven protocol to heal and seal the gut walls and maximize our body’s ability to process them.

We often encounter clients who are not ready to give up their morning cup of joe. While we believe you really won’t need/desire it once you heal & your energy returns, here’s what we recommend if you do continue consuming in the morning.

☼ Don’t drink coffee immediately upon waking.

Your levels are already high first thing in the morning, and the last thing you want to do is drive up that cortisol and blood sugar when it’s already at its peak.

You read that right - caffeine does increase blood sugar! This is due to that increased cortisol (stress hormone) that prompts the liver to release stored glucose into the bloodstream. And we know blood sugar spikes can eventually lead to insulin resistance.

☼ Don’t drink coffee on an empty stomach.

For the same reasons above, you’re suddenly increasing the cortisol and blood sugar spike rather than slowly waking your digestive system with a healthy (preferably a nutrient-packed smoothie).

☼ Be sure to re-hydrate first.

It’s easy to throw back an iced beverage as if it’s water. If you rehydrate your cells properly first (lemon water, smoothie, etc.) before drinking coffee, you’re less likely to drink too much and you’ve revitalized your cells prior to the intake.

☼ We always follow the 80/20 rule with wellness recommendations. It’s important to provide a realistic plan, and sometimes that means a client is not ready to eliminate coffee. As long as you follow the guidance above, you’re taking positive steps toward better health!

You can’t always control what happens around you. Be it the economy, your boss’ attitude, or an unexpected bill.

However (and this can be one of the hardest things to wrap our head around), you can control your mind, or your “inner world”.

Being aware of what’s going on around you. Present. Observing.

Unaffected.

Our home borders the in , which caught fire and turned into a 14,000+ acre over the course of 36 hours.

It was a surreal experience waiting to see if the wind would stay in our favor or turn against us, requiring us to evacuate with our two babies, two dogs and two cats.

I’m left thinking about the connection between how we can heal our bodies and what the is enduring.

It’s being bombarded with toxins and external environmental factors right now - burning brush, smoke, and the worst… fire retardants being dropped from planes above to stop the spread into residential areas.

Oh how my heart hurts for the desert.

This is what our bodies have been through too. Fires. Storms. Toxins. Not enough rest. Killing the good things in our gut with antibiotics or foods that cause imbalance. Our bodies are just trying to survive. And if we equip then right, they can even heal.

We’ll get to witness the scarred landscape heal over the next few years, as I embark on my own journey healing myself and others. Emptying our rain barrel of toxins and replenishing our bodies with the things it needs to thrive.
