Do you wonder if your child would benefit from speech therapy to correct their speech sound errors? See the many benefits below!

1. Improved Speech Intelligibility: Through targeted interventions, children learn to produce sounds accurately, leading to increased speech clarity and intelligibility. This enhances their ability to effectively communicate with others.

2. Enhanced Academic Skills: As speech intelligibility improves, children experience better participation in classroom activities, leading to improved academic performance, particularly in areas such as reading, writing, and language comprehension.

3. Increased Confidence and Self-Esteem: Successful speech therapy outcomes positively impact a child's self-confidence and self-esteem. Improved communication abilities empower them to engage in social interactions, build friendships, and express themselves more effectively.

4. Long-Term Communication Success: Early intervention and evidence-based speech therapy lay the foundation for lifelong communication skills. By addressing phonological disorders early, children have a higher likelihood of overcoming speech challenges and achieving optimal communication abilities.

Monkey see, Monkey do, Monkey SAY. We all know that children imitate what they hear. My favorite thing Aria is imitating at the moment is "my darling" and "babe" when referring to myself or Jared.

But what if your toddler isn't imitating your words yet? Where can you start? Before children imitate words, they imitate sounds (think babbling, animal sounds like moo, baa, and environmental sounds like vroom or "mmm" when something is yummy). Focusing on imitating these sounds can help late talkers begin to understand that they can make the same sounds (and eventually words) that they hear.

TWO. It's an important age for language developmental, because by age two, toddlers should be doing something very exciting - combining words together!

So many parents get caught up with THE FIRST WORD by age one and of course cherish that precious first word they hear from their little one. But combining words together is a milestone that is just as, if not more important for their language development. If your child is two or approaching two and not yet combining words, reach out today for a free phone consultation to find out how you can get them talking so they can reach their communication milestones.

The best part of making memories can be cleaning them up!

Have a toddler who likes to make a lot of mess? Have a toddler who goes from one activity to the next very quickly? Make a cleanup a fun part of play! Extending your play by making clean up a part of it not only helps you as a mama maintain the mess, but it also gives your toddler a second opportunity to talk about the vocabulary associated with a toy or experience.

Aria is really into her “accessories” lately, rocking her hat, sunglasses, and purse.

Whatever your toddler is into, take the time to teach them those “bigger” words, especially groups and categories. Here are 5 categories you can teach your toddler:

1. Accessories: play dress up and have your little one put on fun hats, scarves, sunglasses, purses, etc. Teach them the word “accessories” by saying the word multiple times and explaining what it means.
2. Vehicles or transportation: cars, cars, cars! Teach your toddler that cars are a type of “transportation” and that “transportation” can take you where you want to go.
3. Ingredients: use baking and cooking together to talk about all the ingredients you will need for the recipe.
4. Animals: think farm animals, ocean animals, wild animals, pets!
5. Food groups: play with toy food and talk about the different groups like fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, etc.

In this day and age, we are getting to see the power of voice in a whole new way. With Siri and Alexa, our children are realizing how they can easily get the song they want played by asking with their voice! Unfortunately, these devices don’t have the sensitivity of our parent ears that can interpret that unclear speech our little ones…

Even more motivation to help your child speak clearly and get them into speech therapy if they are falling behind on their speech sound development or language development.

By age 3, children are expected to be understood up to 75% of the time and up to 90% of the time by age 4.
