Things I thought were ‘healthy’ at 50 … that I’m no longer doing at 60!

I’m all about a healthy and ageless lifestyle but I’m also listening tuning in to what works for me.

✨Long fasts-I love the health benefits of cellular rejuvenation from long fasting periods. However; I they do not work for me. I wind up with low blood sugar and increased cortisol. I now do a digestive reset overnight for 12-14 hours but if I am very hungry before bed I will include protein before bedtime.

✨ Over supplementing - I’m definitely in my supplement era but don’t need to try every supplement out there. My GO TO’s are a probiotic, digestive enzymes, Magnesium, Omega 3’s and Quercetin for inflammation. Back to listening to my body and watching for signs of low blood sugar ( supplements that balance blood sugar can do this for me ) and bladder irritation ( I have a painful bladder diagnosis, many ladies with overactive bladder symptoms can have symptoms with green tea extract and other stimulants too).

✨ Counting Macros- I felt I was overeating when I was counting macros and I was! Now I just make protein the star of the show and eat more intuitively ( stopping when I’m full and eating when hungry).

✨Pushing myself to get in 10,000 steps per day even while exhausted - this no longer makes sense to me. I’m focused on training properly with a weight bearing exercise program and getting in movement every chance I get but if I’m tired, I rest. I know my body needs that too!

How about you? What have you given up as well? ❤️

Just a living in the moment! ❣️

It’s been a wonderful weekend celebrating my youngest son’s graduation from ASU.

I shared with my son that I wish I had taken more pictures. He said, ‘ That’s OK mom, you were living in the moment.’

Isn’t that the goal? To experience JOY and celebrate the moment.

Life has been busy lately, too busy for my liking. I’m turning 61 this week and looking forward to some changes I have in place personally for the new year.

This may truly be the year that living in the moment becomes a reality more than a goal. ❣️

Thank you :
for the delicious food and presentation for our graduation party
truly a special touch to have our guests experience and enjoy your beautiful violin music deli - the Italian cookies were a huge HIT ( coming from a room full of Italians you know that means a lot)

… pictures didn’t capture our guests in attendance but we so appreciate each and every one of you!! ❣️

There is no prize for “doing menopause the right way.”

Supplementing with estrogen or choosing natural options does not make anyone stronger, healthier, or better than the next woman.

Our health isn’t a competition in menopause or any stage of life.

What are we actually winning?

The goal is to feel informed, supported, and healthy in a way that works for YOU.

Let’s not make this an ‘invisible competition’ and support each other in our choices!

The Menopause Need to Know Menopause Conversations getting Millions of Views right now!

The FDA removed the Black Box warning on estrogen products for cardiovascular disease, breast cancer and dementia leading to a shortage due to the spike in usage from women and the fact that patches are more difficult to manufacture than tablets.

Know that you do have options available, speak to your doctor or healthcare provider!

I will also pin my video on this topic to my reels page for easy access.

The Viral Pepcid and Allegra trend in Menopause has been getting millions of views too . I’m offering natural alternatives for ladies who want that too!

In perimenopause, estrogen doesn’t decline in a smooth straight line. It fluctuates A LOT!

Those hormone swings can activate mast cells , cells in your body which release histamine.

And histamine symptoms coupled with menopause symptoms can cause:

anxiety
flushing
insomnia
headaches
racing heart
reflux
bladder urgency
bloating

At the same time, progesterone often drops first, losing some of its calming effect on the nervous system and mast cells.

It has been a recent trend for women to use antihistamines like Allegra or Zyrtec which crosses the blood brain barrier but may cause drowsiness and H2 blockers like Pepcid to manage symptoms.

There can absolutely be a time and place for medications, however; If you are looking for a natural approach that may help support histamine balance and mast cell stability:

Check out quercetin-often thought of as a natural antihistamine and a great antioxidant and helpful for inflammation too. It’s a great overall midlife supplement.

Ginger also helps block histamine , has a soothing GI effect but not lowering stomach acid which can affect the absorption of nutrients. You can easily incorporate this into a tea or look into capsules.

Many women do not realize the correlation between histamine and midlife.

Be sure to check with a medical professional to see if any of these options are right for you!

I’m about to turn 61, these THREE health shifts I made at 60 have me feeling better than I did in my forties! I wish I made them sooner!

✨ Following an science driven exercise plan that works for me! I love to workout at home but I was doing random YouTube videos daily , pushing myself to get in 10,000 steps even while exhausted and not really seeing any results. I joined and I am finally started to build muscle and see results.

✨ Listening to my body! I am eating more intuitively ( learned this through a collaboration with ) , not pushing fasting and eating when hungry has helped stop low blood sugar issues and spikes in cortisol.

I am also gluten and dairy free ( learned about intolerances through DNA testing). This truly has helped reduce inflammation in my body, reduced GI issues and I’ve never felt better. Key here- listen to your body and do what is right for YOU!

✨Working on increasing FIBER as well as protein in my diet. I was eating a very protein based diet and after a colonoscopy and conversations on gut health I’m back to including this in my diet ( a bit of flax in the morning and fruits and vegetables throughout the day). It’s made a difference in fullness, digestion and overall balance . Protein is important but fiber is also very important in midlife!

Self care and targeted supplementation are all important to me too!

How about you? Any new habits you’ve introduced that feel right for you too?

Head to my bio for all my health favorites including my FREE 7 Day Gut Reset to feel clearer, lighter and more grounded in 7 Days!

Using an estrogen patch? Let’s talk about the things women are often surprised by…

✨Weight changes

Studies indicate that weight should not shift HOWEVER; some women notice weight gain or feel “puffy” after starting.

That doesn’t mean it’s not working, but it does mean your body may need time, dose adjustments, or additional support.

This can be extremely surprising for some ladies as they often think estrogen will be an instant weight release boost.

✨The Adhesive

Yes… the stickiness is real.

It can leave residue, attract lint, or just feel annoying on the skin. It is a small detail, but one many women don’t expect.

A gentle oil like jojoba oil is perfect for removing adhesive after patch removal.

✨It can be helpful for some menopause symptoms but not all.

HRT may not fully help genitourinary symptoms like vaginal dryness, discomfort, or urinary symptoms often need local estrogen, not just systemic.

Be sure to talk to a medical professional for any support you may need.

Hormone therapy can be incredibly helpful but it’s not one-size-fits-all.

Save this if you’re starting (or thinking about) an estrogen patch and be sure to follow for more pharmacist bases information on feeling your best in menopause and beyond!

I’m a pharmacist of 37 years and have recommended tens of thousands of over-the-counter products.

Here are three many women over 50 have never heard of… but should.

🔅 Prelief – This calcium-based tablet removes up to 90% of the acid from foods like coffee, orange juice, tomatoes, and tomato sauces.

These foods can trigger symptoms for women with painful bladder, overactive bladder, or after a recent UTI.

It can also help reduce GI irritation from acidic foods.

🔅 Estroven Complete – Contains rhapontic rhubarb extract, which can help reduce hot flashes and support sleep and mood during menopause.

🔅 Azo Standard – The OTC version of phenazopyridine, often prescribed for burning and urinary pain with UTIs.

It can help relieve symptoms until you’re able to see your doctor for testing.

Important note: it turns urine orange/red, which won’t affect bacterial growth in a urine culture but can affect the quick dipstick test done in some offices.

Bonus: Azo also makes a great pumpkin seed supplement that may help support bladder control.

Reflections at 60 on what I learned from My Mother ❤️

I come from a family of STRONG and BEAUTIFUL ladies including my mother.

Italian Traditions are woven into her soul, she’s passed those along to me and to our entire family.

❣️We are care for our families and the fear of anyone going hungry is real to an Italian mom. We are going to ask you if you want something to eat even if you just said ‘No’.

❣️We are not afraid of hard work. My mother always encouraged me to pursue any goal I had in sight. She also encouraged me to push myself to achieve that goal and I thank her for not letting me settle when she knew I was capable of more.

❣️Resiliency is my Mother’s middle name. A three time cancer survivor, she navigates life with strength and determination.

❣️The older I get the more I realize I have completely inherited her love of shopping and style! That is why we are thrilled to be wearing our sets! We both absolutely LOVE the brand! Check them out with Fulfilled10 and their Mother’s Day Sale right now!
