Both of our saunas are built from cedar. A wood known for its strength, warmth, and resilience.
Cedar has been used in sauna building for generations. It expands and contracts less than other woods, which means it holds its shape through countless cycles of heat and steam. It’s naturally resistant to rot and mildew, making it ideal for the rhythm of sweat, rinse, rest, repeat.
But beyond the practical, there’s the sensory.
When cedar warms, it releases a clean, grounding aroma that lingers in the air long after you’ve stepped out. It’s calming…a scent that connects you to the natural world even when the door closes and the heat surrounds you.
Cedar doesn’t just look beautiful; it feels alive.
It stays cool enough to touch, breathes easily, and creates a soft, even heat that’s kind to the skin.
We chose cedar because it embodies balance…steady and alive, simple yet rich.
It makes the space feel honest, elemental, and deeply human. It’s the quiet heart of every Selkie sauna experience.
