3 years ago my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. While it was the scariest news we’ve ever heard, she met it head on with strength, hope, optimism, and incredible faith.

We thank God every day for taking the cancer from her. We are so blessed.

One of the things we learned through Erica’s journey is just how many people still don’t get the support they need during their battle with cancer. We vowed to do something.

Erica started to help others have access to potentially hair saving treatment during chemo. It may sound silly but being able to keep her hair through treatment had a greater positive impact than I could have ever imagined. We want others to have access to that too.

Learn more about her story and how our foundation helps others here:

We humbly ask, if you set aside budget for charitable giving, that you consider our foundation!

“Listen, yeah everybody wants change
Don't nobody wanna change though”
🎵Oh Lord

For many, New Years represents the start of change. Truth is, change can happen any time. You don’t need to wait for New Years.

However If your (like many people) New Years resolutions include starting healthier habits or getting into/back into fitness, my recommendation for you is: START SMALL.

If you start tomorrow with a crash diet or a two hour workout… I’ll call it now, it won’t be sustainable. Consistency and sustainability is the key to real change.

So start small. Trade one high calorie snack for one lower calorie snack. Add an extra 15 minutes of walking to your day. Do something you can sustain. Then build on it. Progress breeds progress.

Make it so you START next year without having to make having a healthier lifestyle a part of your New Years resolution. Because your ALREADY doing it! You kept consistent all of 2022 with something you could sustain for a lifetime.

My best piece of advice is:
Before you start something ask yourself “is this something I could do for the rest of my life?” In health and fitness, if the answer to that is no, it’s probably not a great solution.

Cannonball shoulders

Building big strong shoulders has multiple benefits. One of which is, aesthetically this gives off a look of “above average strength and fitness”. Big shoulders are a staple of the Greek God physique (just look at the shoulders on those statues)!

Strong healthy shoulders also help prevent injuries and help you with strength for a host of activities both in and out of the gym.

Here’s my recipe for cannonball looking shoulders:
1) get lean. Want your shoulders to pop? Get down to lower body fat levels. This has more to do with what you do in the kitchen than in the gym.
2) work on your triceps. While this may not seem directly related having big strong shoulders, it does. Building muscle in your tris will help accentuate the shoulders and many tricep workouts work on your shoulders as well.
3) focus on key lifts and build up to big weight. Want big shoulders? Don’t try to do 100 reps of flys with 10 pound dumbbells. Work on being able to do heavy standing overhead presses. I love reverse pyramid style lifts here. Warm up. Then do a weight you can get 4-6 clean reps on (as heavy as possible, this should be your heaviest set). Decrease weight by 10% and rest 2-3 min, then try to get 6-8 reps. Decrease weight again by another 10% and rest 2-3 min, then try to get 8-12 reps.

Traditions.

So many of them revolve around food. My dad used to take my little brother and I to (if you know, you know) on the way to the as kids. Starting that tradition today with MY son ❤️

They are known for their amazing log cabin construction with massive round beams, huge portions, and cinnamon rolls the size of your head.

and an overall healthy lifestyle allows for being able to still enjoy some of these fun food based traditions without “guilt”.

Celebrating my wife birthday this week. Barely tracking food at all. Just enjoying the moments. Knowing full well I’ll get back on track later this week.

Life is short. Just make sure you stay healthy enough to enjoy it.

PS don’t worry. Baby Jacks didn’t get any of the cinnamon roll but he sure wanted some!

Finally decided to upgrade to a big kid bench 🤣 We have been using the bench my dad bought me when I was in high school.

Looked at a few benches and then watched some comparisons by and ultimately decided on the over the . Honestly, shipping cost was the final deciding factor and was FREE!

Love having the leg attachment and the zero gap. This thing is really nice!

What’s your reason? What motivates you?

For me it’s my family- and my son. I want to be healthy. I want to be able to be able to be active when I’m older. I want to be a strong, positive role model.

What’s your why?

Also, baby Jack wants to know “do you even lift”? Thanks for the awesome onesie

On Labor Day… we LABOR!

Sorry, dad joke alert 🚨 I guess I am becoming my old man.

If the labor is what you love though, it doesn’t feel like work.

Get after it on this Monday friends.

The result of 5 years of weightlifting and learning how to manage my nutrition.

This is at the end of my last cut and after following the 10 day contest prep guide.

While I don’t have a desire to compete in natural bodybuilding I wanted to go through the steps. Learn more about my body and what it is capable of.

Do you need to go to these levels to be healthy, strong, lean, and look good? No! But the knowledge I’ve gained by going through the process will make me better at helping others reach their goals!

Hotel gyms. Sometimes you just need something in a pinch!

Typically when I travel I try to stay near a real gym that allows guests or a National gym I have a membership to like or like I did on this trip.

However, sometimes it just doesn’t work out! Was onsite with a customer for over 20 hours. Got 90 minutes of sleep. Still wanted to get a workout in… it was!

Swipe to see a pic of what I had to work with. Was it ideal? No. Was there all the equipment needed to do my standard workout for the day? No. So what do you do?

I modified my week. Did more full body circuit type workouts. Used dumbells and since the heaviest weight wasn’t enough for some of my lifts I just did more reps and shorter brakes.

It doesn’t always have to be optimal. Sometimes you just gotta get it done!

Cutting phase over! This pic was taken the day AFTER the end of my cut and after I crushed an entire the night before 🤣

I started an extremely slow, methodical cut on Jan 1, 2021. The goal was to get super lean, maintain as much muscle mass as possible, and cut as few calories out as possible.

Starting weight was 189, ending weight was 167.

When I started my average calories for a day we’re about 3,200 (bulking). At the end of the cut my calories were at an average of 2,100 per day.

Swipe to see how much my measurements changed over the last 8+ months. Yes, my legs actually GREW! I have not put enough emphasis on them in the past and have been training legs much harder this year.

What’s next? This last week has been a little off, with my best friends wedding and my first work trip in over 18 months. Starting to reverse diet back to maintenance and then on to the next lean bulk!!

Follow upcoming posts and stories to learn the importance of a reverse diet after a cut and how to do it.

This is a big deal for me.

The pic on the left is my drivers license picture from early 2017. I was 230+ pounds. I was not in a good place mentally, emotionally, spiritually. I just wasn’t a happy person.

The pic on the right is my FINALLY updated drivers license picture from just the other day.

It looks and feels like these are pictures of two different people.

So much has changed. I renewed my relationship with God. I met a woman who loves me, supports me, builds me up, and makes me want to be the best possible version of myself - And I became a dad, found my career calling, got fit and healthy, and so much more.

You can change. You are capable of it. It’s rarely easy. It’s always worth.

Cheers to shredding this picture and closing out a chapter of my life.
