As the next Integrative Pelvic Therapy training approaches, I am honored to share this testimonial from a student who joined us last winter. As an LMT, this student began working for a local business specializing in prenatal and postpartum massage shortly after completing this training. I’m so glad that she took the tools she gained here to not only further her career, but to help every woman she has worked with since.

There is still time to sign up for this fall training in Seattle!
Early bird discount ends September 15th. Please reach out with any questions.

Our next pelvic decongestant is a chinese herb, called d**g quai, or angelica sinensis. This pungent, aromatic, and warming herb is a great ally to have in your toolkit.
🌱🌱🌱
Angelica can be used to promote menstruation, dissolves blood clots, regulate cycles, and ease abdominal cramping. It is also useful for nervous tension and irritability pre-menstrually. This herb is also moistening and can be used for constipation. It is rich in vitamins A, E, and B12.
🌱🌱🌱
Angelica is nourishing, comforting, and grounding > those who do not feel safe in their root might find ease when meditating with d**g quai. The warming properties bring presence to the pelvis where there has previously been disconnect or deficiency. Angelica has been described as the herb of femininity and can help cultivate the yin (even though it is a yang herb).
🌱🌱🌱
Per usual, please consult with YOUR doctor before starting or stopping any medications or supplements.

The next pelvic decongestant is horse chestnut, or Aesculus hippocastanum. The seeds are great for edema, inflammation, and vascular fragility. The toning nature of the aescin in horse chestnut makes it an ideal candidate for chronic pelvic pain due to venous stasis
🐎🐎🐎
Horse chestnut is ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter reminds us to be expansive and reach outside of our comfort zones to understand the world. This planetary signature reminds us to use horse chestnut when we become stuck and need to move our energy elsewhere for growth.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
This herb should not be taken if you are pregnant, and as always one should always consult their doctor before starting any new supplements or medications. What else do you know about horse chestnut!?

We’re continuing on our pelvic decongestants series! Today we introduce ceanothus velutinus. The inner root bark is a deep red color, giving its common name, red root. There are many ceanothus (americanus in the eastern US, herbaceum in the plains, fendleri and greggii in the southwest, spinosus and cuneatus in california), but velutinus is of the pacific northwest.
🌿🌿🌿
The dried root bark is used to move lymph and tonify tissues. It is bitter, astringent, cool, and of course, decongesting. It has been used by Native Americans to induce sweating to treat colds, fevers, and influenza. It was also used to treat lymphatic disease, ovarian cysts, fibroids, and tonsillitis.
🌿🌿🌿
Red root is one of the best lymphagogues we have, making it a wonderful pelvic decongestant. It is an ally to those with a sensation of heaviness in the uterus, long heavy periods, distention and constipation, engorged lymphatic tissue, cysts, and other pelvic congestion states.
🌿🌿🌿
The duality of the plant - tannins that tighten and tone, but saponins that open and restore - are vital to the decongesting nature of red root.
✨✨✨
Have you ever tried red root before?

✨ the v***a ✨

◠ The v***a protects the tissues at the va**nal opening
◠ It contains an ecosystem of microbes that handle the irritation of urine and stool
◠ The tissue bounces back beautifully after delivering a baby
◠ It is the most important organ for sexual pleasure

The main structures of the v***a:
◠ Mons
◠ L***a majora
◠ L***a minora
◠ G***s cl****is (visible portion of the cl****is)
◠ Cl****al hood
◠ Vestibule
◠ Urethral opening

The cl****is is the only structure in the human body designed for pleasure. The g***s cl****is is the visible part and the rest of the cl****is is organized beneath the surface of the l***a and va**na.

The mons consists of skin and fatty tissue that lays above the p***c bone. The l***a majora are folds of skin + fatty tissue that extend from the mons to the vestibule. The l***a minora consists of erectile tissue rather than fat, and they form the cl****al hood. All sizes and shapes of l***a are NORMAL.

The vestibule is the junction of the v***a + va**na. This is where the opening of the urethra is located. The vestibule is mucosal skin, just like the va**na.

Key takeaway: the v***a and the va**na are not the same 🤓

Every body deserves to feel pleasure and everybody has the ability to access pleasure. Working with womxn, I often witness a disconnection with their bodies that feeds a disconnect with pleasure— a common thread is ‘difficulty receiving.’ If we become more in touch with our bodies, we have a greater ability to tap into pleasure, leading to a more fulfilling relationship with our bodies.

Accessing pleasure may feel difficult at first, but I encourage small steps that may include meditation, somatic experiencing, the use of tools like a soft blanket or rug, mindfulness with cooking + eating, touch/affection with yourself and/or someone you trust, time spent in nature. The list goes on but what’s important is finding pleasure that works for you, pleasure that you choose.

Stress, trauma, shame, low self-worth are all things that we come up against at some point in our lives. It’s completely normal to feel like you can’t access pleasure during these times. Be gentle with yourself, self-care will always serve you, feel the feelings. Being open to receiving can encourage pleasure to co-exist.

ESTROGEN DOMINANCE

Estrogen plays a vital role in our hormonal system and overall health. It helps regulate the menstrual cycle, is instrumental in bone formation and blood clotting, and supports mood.

However, hormonal imbalances can cause estrogen to become excessive. There’s a few different ways this can happen, and more often than not, progesterone is low in relationship to estrogen so it is important to look at the whole picture.

A few ways to reduce excessive exposure to endogenous (outside of our body) estrogen:
◠ Reducing plastic use
◠ Chlorine filter on shower heads and filtered drinking water
◠ Reduce exposure to parabens in cosmetic products— check out skin deep for resources
◠ Organic meat and dairy, if possible
◠ Fragrance free, biodegradable laundry + household cleaning products
