March is Nicky's (NoTF namesake) birthday month and we would like to take time to celebrate our amazing volunteers! Each and every one of you has a unique story and adds something special to our NoTF team. You are our "Game-changers" and this month we show how special you are.

Before becoming a Physician’s Assistant, Jennifer Carrol spent 13 years as a Certified Athletic Trainer working in the high schools. Jenn knows firsthand the importance of having Athletic Trainers in every high school. She is a great liaison between NoTF, the schools, athletes, coaches and the Washington State Athletic Trainers' Association.

“ I was introduced to Nick of Time as an AT and thought it was a great way to help keep our young athletes safe! After PA school I started working at the UW Medicine Center for Sports Cardiology with Dr. Drezner. Working with NoTF is something embraced and whole heartedly supported by our program. I volunteer because I believe in giving back to the community in whatever way I can. If we can prevent one SCA/SCD, that's what is most important.

My motivation comes from my years of working with young athletes as an Athletic Trainer, their love and passion for sports should not be hampered by a cardiac condition that is potentially preventable.”

New article from Kim Harmon in The Seattle Times

Is there a better way to identify cardiovascular conditions that may kill young athletes? The answer is “yes.” An electrocardiogram can reliably identify about 60 to 70 percent of conditions that cause sudden cardiac death. The test is simple and noninvasive.

Thank you to the 82 volunteers who helped us at Tumwater High School yesterday! This screening was all about training and it was a pleasure to work with all the new volunteers and help them get comfortable with our Nick of Time Foundation model and protocol.
We found 3 students who need follow-up and we trained another great group of students in hands only CPR and AED’s.

Shout outs!
• Tim Graham- Thank you for your support, it’s administrators like you that make a difference in our schools.
• A very big THANK YOU to the Facilities Maintenance Crew at Tumwater High School. They made short work of our set-up on Tuesday night and helped alleviate most of our concern about a late night set-up time. Remember you are always welcome at a NoTF setup party!
• Kellie Graham for registering all the kids AND organizing the hospitality room. A big thank you to the Tumwater Thunderbird Booster Club for feeding our crew. Lunch was amazing and our volunteers loved Taco Wednesday!
• Capital Medical Center for providing support, logistic help and volunteers. We hope you will continue this program in the future. Thank you for seeing value in the program we have created and your commitment to keeping the kids in your community heartsafe. As was evident yesterday, you have amazing community support and we are excited to see you create your best practice model. We look forward to helping you get it off the ground.
• Tumwater Firefighters Union IAFF Local 2409 and McLane Black Lake Professional Firefighters. We love having the “Blue Crew” helping us with the event. You guys always show up with a smile on your face, ready to work and never hesitate to stay and help us breakdown and load up. We “heart” you guys!!
• Airlift Northwest for the use of your space for the CME on Tuesday evening and Sterile Surgical Systems for the generous gown donation.

It never ceases to amaze us how much support we get from our “traveling village”.
• Bill Mack and his Washington State Council of Fire Fighters crew for their unwavering support.
• This year’s screening program sponsors: UW Medicine, UW Medicine Center for Sports Cardiology, CardeaScreen, SonoSite and Physio-Control, Inc.
• Our NoTF Family- commuting from Stanwood to Federal Way (and everywhere in between) your dedication to our mission is what keeps us going!
• Your willingness to share your expertise and passionate belief in our program is humbling. You make our voice so much louder :0)
