As a health coach, I believe all things in moderation and of course I try to keep it as close to whole, organic foods as possible... but i mean, I love ice cream, who doesn't! AND apparently 50% of the volume in ice cream is air. Who knew?! . . . .

Happy Friday! With summer here, it seems like more people are out and about than we've seen in quite awhile... But are we all so busy trying to play catch-up from the slowness of 2020 that we're burning ourselves out again? ⁣

This is your reminder to take a breath, remind yourself that this isn't a race, and to really enjoy this very moment you're in. Also, just because it's the weekend- doesn't mean you stop taking care of yourself 😉⁣

Have you been eating your eggs?!

I love eggs but they’ve gotten a bad rap with confusion over whether they’re good or bad for you. On the fence? Let me tell you why they’re so good for you and should be a staple in your house 😊

They’re practically the perfect food. High in protein, yolks packed with choline, filled with amino acids, some even call them the building blocks of protein.

They’re also packed with nutrients- to name a few- vitamin D, which is so important right now, selenium, B6, and B12, choline, which is great for brain health! It helps with your memory and cognitive function. Are you watching your cholesterol? No prob! They can also help keep your good cholesterol, HDL, in check.

Hard to believe such small food packs in so much!

Did you know 3/4 of Americans are dehydrated and it’s the #1 cause of midday fatigue? Crazy, right?!.
A few symptoms of dehydration include:
• Headache
• Digestion issues
• Fatigue
• Weight gain
• Soreness + aches
• Allergies + Asthma
• Skin conditions
Have any of these symptoms? I sure have!

Another thing to note, coffee’s great! But it dehydrates you 😒 so be mindful about how much your drinking and maybe grab a glass of water💧to go with your coffee ☕️. It’s a win win 💁🏼‍♀️

How much water does your body need? 8 glasses is great but another great calculation is divide your weight by 2 and drink that amount of water in ounces. So for example, if you weigh 170 lbs your should drink 85 oz. You should also think about how active you are and adjust accordingly 😊

How do you start your day?

If you’re starting with some delicious baked goods, add a side of protein with it so you won’t get that dreaded sugar crash later.

I start mine with coffee, duh 🙄, and if I’m not fixing a protein smoothie, I usually fix some eggs with some healthy fats on the side.

I’m not here to demonize food, I’m here to give you tips on healthy living. I try and keep these tips in mind throughout the day.

I decided to shake things up a little this year by making a grapefruit margarita- rather than the old standby and even though we're still living the quarantine life, Cinco de Mayo wouldn't be complete without some margaritas!

This recipe is so simple- you could do it with your eyes closed. Almost 😉
Ingredients:
Kosher salt to rim the glass
Dash of chili powder, mixed with the salt (optional)
The juice of one lime (plus extra limes for garnish)
1.5 ounce fresh grapefruit juice
2 ounces tequila, (preferably anejo)
Grapefruit twist, for garnish
Lime twist, for garnish

OPTIONAL:
For a spicy margarita muddle some jalepenós- 1 thinly sliced jalapeño round (a little goes a long way!)
Add a dash of liquid stevia, simple syrup or agave
A splash of Grapefruit (lemon or lime would work!) sparkling water

1. Mix the salt and optional chili powder on a plate, cut a lime wedge- run it around the rim of the glass and then dip the glass in the salt mixture.
2. Fill a glass (or shaker) with ice, lime juice, grapefruit juice and tequila. Shake shake shake!
3. Strain the mixture into the prepared glass. Garnish and enjoy!
