"We don't stay in the office and wait for the clients to come," said Alejandra, REACH Outreach System Coordinator at ETS. "We go in the woods, go under the freeway, and find them."

Alejandra finds 'Street Medicine' particularly helpful for people dealing with PTSD or mental health issues, people marginalized by the health care system, and people who've visited a hospital or clinic but were discriminated against because they experienced homelessness.

Learn how street medicine in Seattle improves public health among residents lacking permanent, stable housing while building relationships of support with people who are often forgotten about in our city:

Public Health – Seattle & King County has swapped its big RVs for smaller, more nimble vans to deliver free medical care to unhoused residents in South King County. The upgradded Street Medicine Program brings health services directly to people at encampments, food banks, and community centers.

The Trump administration's changes to Medicaid will create a catch-22 by introducing extra paperwork and cumbersome administrative processes, which will disproportionally affect vulnerable recipients in the long run, including people with mental health conditions and those who are unhoused.

A significant number of Washingtonians could lose their Medicaid coverage, with estimates suggesting between 200,000 and 320,000.

Medicaid changes could affect some of the most vulnerable recipients, including people with mental health conditions and people who are homeless, experts say.

Last weekend, ETS staff joined over 300,000 people at the Seattle Pride Parade to stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA2S+ community and ETS participants. 🏳️‍🌈

ETS staff Rheana proudly held a sign stating "I owe my life to Marsha P. Johnson 'Pay it no mind,'" a quote coined by activist Marsha P. Johnson, one of the most prominent figures of the gay rights movement of the 1960s and '70s in New York City. The “P” in Marsha's middle name stood for “Pay It No Mind.” To her, this was a life motto and response to questions about her gender as a trans black woman.

For Rheana, LEAD Screening Outreach Coordinator at REACH and member of ETS's LGBTQIA+ Committee, Johnson's motto "Pay it no mind" reminds them that despite the tragedies the LGBTQIA2S+ community continues to endure, there is resilience and freedom in community.

"We must stay resilient and stay ALIVE," said Rheana. "We must 'pay it no mind' so that we can live our lives for ourselves and in our most vulnerable and authentic ways. 'Pay it No Mind' has an air of resilience and hope, with the acknowledgment that some people just don't want to understand. And that's okay. We are the only ones who can truly free ourselves."
