Stan Jonasson, founder of Eyes on Fremont passed away in September. Please join us for a celebration of Stan’s life and vision at an open house at Eyes on Fremont October 31st, 2025- 6:00 to 8:00pm. If possible please RSVP to info@eyesonfremont.com

Stan moved to Seattle and went through Seattle Central’s Opticianry Program in the 80’s. He worked at range of optical retailers in the Puget Sound, realizing there was an opportunity for a different kind of optical store. With humble beginnings, he and wife Linda opened Eyes on Fremont October 31st, 1996.

Stan’s recipe for a different type of optical store…3 P’s

PEOPLE: Stan valued Opticians greatly! He knew there were two very important aspects of an Optician’s job. An intimate technical understanding of prescriptive lenses is indispensable in great vision. There is also an unquantifiable artistic and expressive aspect of finding just the right pair of glasses for someone’s Rx needs and aesthetic inclinations.

PRODUCT: There was and remains a huge range in eyewear’s design and quality. Stan capitalized on that. He traveled the globe tirelessly hunting for frames and lenses that were unique and relevant in merit, not available in Seattle. He discovered and championed many eyewear labels that had not yet been offered in the US. “Our first US customer” was not an uncommon remark with global vendors.

PRICE: Through his insatiable hunt for undiscovered frames and lenses, Eyes on Fremont was, and is still, able to offer eyewear products at an unrivalled value. In and industry overrun with cheap disposable product, and excessive luxury waste; Eyes on Fremont continues to use value as an invaluable metric in product curation.

Nearing its 29th year of operation Eyes on Fremont still holds Stan’s 3 P’s as its core DNA, with a backbone of Linda’s business and accounting, nuts and bolts.

On a personal level, Stan was amongst the most thoughtful and humble human beings on the planet. To have a chat with Stan was to shift gears from a hurried exchange of information to a much more considerate candor and rhythm of conversation not common in today’s society. Approximation of presence with Stan, was met with curious dose of humor interjected to observation and remarks. He was an avid pickle baller and loved pétanque. Sports he became involved with on a community level where his “Stan” brand of charisma shot through as in his professional life. Although speaking to anyone who knew Stan would mention his influential presence in their life, he was humble to the core and would say nothing of it.
