Well, it’s official: FAST must be the new “it” practice… because we’ve reached the milestone of being on the receiving end of our very first phishing attempt!
Last night, someone impersonated one of our evaluators and asked us to deposit payments to updated account information. Fortunately, we caught -- and reported -- the attempted fraud promptly.
This is a powerful reminder that even small, mission-driven teams like ours aren’t immune to scams. The silver lining? Our internal safeguards worked exactly as they're supposed to 💪
A few take-home tips for anyone handling sensitive info at work or at home:
--> Verify unexpected financial requests through a second method: call or video chat with the person to confirm.
--> Be cautious with email and text requests involving money or account changes, even if they seem to come from someone you know.
--> If it feels fishy, listen to your gut, and pause before taking any action, even one click.
As the fisherman in this photo illustrates, balance is everything -- whether you're navigating a canoe or a suspicious email. Let’s keep our phishing adventures where they belong: on beautiful bodies of water.
