Next up in our "Meet our Guides" series is Jules! Jules is the owner and operator of The Art of Connection and is located in Renton. In their words, "My favorite thing about the practice of Forest Therapy is that it allows space for connection between people and nature! Every experience is a different magic. I appreciate it as well for helping to hold the hard and heavy parts of life, as well as celebrating the joys and curiosity of connection! It’s the balance of community, connection, healing, as well as silly, creative, and playful - which I love ✨"

The next guide we would love to introduce to you is Chloe! In Chloe's words: "Forest Bathing is my way of connecting to my creativity and coming in contact with my best ideas! When I relax into my place in nature, my uniqueness and my inspiration are so clear; it's like I can feel and experience my true mind without all the distractions and self-doubt."

When asked about favorite spots for guiding, Chloe said, "I love guiding in urban forests; spending time in the trees is a great way to combat the mental and emotional fatigue of our beautiful, overstimulating world. It is a perfect balance for the everyday pace of our busy lives. Two hours of Forest Bathing is as nourishing as a whole day of vacation!"

Forest bathing (or shinrin-yoku) has been popular in Japan for decades and is gaining momentum in the US. The practice encourages you to move in nature at a slower pace and take in the atmosphere around you. Multiple scientific studies have shown that the practice lowers stress and blood pressure levels, while increasing immune system functioning, making you more resilient to diseases and illness.

Join us at Lake Sammamish State Park for a forest bathing session this Saturday from 1pm-3pm!

During a forest therapy session we slow down and, through an evolving series of sensory-focused invitations, mindfully interact with the world around us. The guide holds space for each person to arrive at a relationship with the Earth in their unique way while occasionally offering opportunities to witness our shared connection to nature. The benefits of forest bathing are well-researched and include easing depression and anxiety, improving immunity, reducing cortisol, and lowering high blood pressure and heart rate.

Join UW Botanic Gardens and Cascadia Forest Therapy for a unique forest bathing opportunity in the Washington Park Arboretum.

These sessions are slow-paced and generally cover less than a mile of trail. During this time the guide, in partnership with the forest, will offer an evolving series of invitations crafted to help participants slow down and open their senses. The opening of one’s senses encourages mindfulness, which readies the heart and mind to be fully present in the natural world. Come discover the medicine of being in the forest.
