🌿Nourishing Nettle Herbal Infusion🌿

Stinging nettle (Urtica diocia) is Mother Nature’s multivitamin and a nutrient dense superfood! It’s packed with vitamins and minerals and safe for the whole family!

Nettles can be used fresh in cooking similar to spinach. For example, lots of folks like to make pesto with it. But I tend to work with it dried mostly in teas or as herbal infusions, which is basically a concentrated tea. Making herbal infusions is in my opinion the best way to get the most bang for your buck as it extracts the most healing constituents into water. Plus, it’s a super easy way to incorporate the healing benefits of this powerful herbal ally when applied into regular practice!

Rendering beef tallow is an easy but somewhat time consuming process anyone can do!

Before it’s tallow, it’s suet - the fat around the kidneys and loins of cows. I melt it down to get the pure clarified fat which can then be used for cooking (fyi french fries cooked in tallow are THE BEST - IYKYK). Or, in my case, making herbal infused topical body butters. This is the method I use that results in ZERO beef smell!

So, why beef tallow in topical body care products? Because it’s very similar to our own body oil composition, which means it's easily absorbed and welcomed into the body. It's also super high in Vitamin K which is crucial for blood clotting when wounds occur and in supporting bone health. Plus, using all parts of an animal is the most honoring of life and ecologically sustainable, not to mention it’s what ALL our ancestors did.

Thanks to my husband who works at a local meat company, I am able to use the highest quality grass-fed-to-finish beef tallow for my herbal products!

Note: measuring is not necessary; I’m just a nerd and wanted to know how much usable tallow I rendered. Also, cutting the suet into smaller chunks before putting it into the pot with water helps speed up the process a bit, I just forgot this time around.
