All things are in motion. You, me, the earth, the universe, everything. That motion has a tempo, a pulse, a heartbeat. Yes, we are all bopping to the same ‘Rhythm of Life’.

Our dance is inevitable, irresistible, delightfully transformative and the 5th Rune of the Elder Futhark is your perfect partner on this journey of discovery.

Raidho – Rune of Journeys, Rhythmic Movement, and Momentum

Once you’ve tuned-in to Raidho’s thrust and balance - as it gracefully moves you forward in step with your inner compass – you open yourself to the joy of serendipity and the pleasure of the next adventure.

Runic Practice:

To align with the Rune of Journeys and Rhythmic Movement, try these daily kinetic resets:

• The "Scenic Route" Challenge: Serendipity rarely finds you if you’re stuck on a treadmill. Today, take one new path. Alter your route to your coffee spot or drive home a different way. As you do, visualize yourself leaving your routine behind and inviting in the pleasure of adventure.

• The "Heartbeat" Sync: Since Raidho is about rhythm and the Cosmic ‘pulse,’ take 60 seconds to find your own heartbeat. Tap out that rhythm on your desk or leg. As you tap, imagine you are syncing up your personal tempo with the Rhythm of Life. It’s a literal way to tune in to Raidho’s balance.

• The "Navigation" Pause: When plans change unexpectedly, don't resist – recalculate. Use your ‘inner compass’ to examine the navigation instead of impulsively reacting. Ask yourself: "Is this a detour or a new destination?" Trusting the natural flow (Laguz) makes the shift into new situations much smoother.

Bonus BindRune:

Combining Laguz (Intuition and Flow) with Raidho (Movement, Travel and Balance) can encourage you to believe in your inner voice and move with the natural currents of life. This balance of energies acts to build on your intuitive insights and smooth the way as you shift into new situations.

People Properties:

A Raidho person would be a blend of traveler, planner, and seeker of cosmic order. They are always on a journey, whether physical or spiritual, and understand that the journey itself is as important as the destination. Raidho people gravitate toward topics of geography, cartography, world cultures, music, and dance. Highly adaptable, they are well-equipped to meet challenges with resilience and deft timing.

Raidho Affirmations:

"I am in motion and in balance. I trust my inner compass. I embrace the journey, and I move with the irresistible rhythm of my own evolution."

RuneTip:

Rhythmic activities like drumming, clapping, jumping, and dancing are particularly effective ways of feeling grounded and tapping into Raidho’s intuitive energy. Drumming is considered the ‘horse’ of the mystic, conveying one to new levels of awareness and perception.

We are living creatures of the air. When we inhale deeply, the spirit of life enters our body, our mind activates, and the ecstatic dialogue between the human and the divine begins.

Rune Ansuz calls attention to the liminal spaces between inspiration and expression, between concept and creation, between the source and the song.

Keep in mind that the words you speak are born from this sacred breath. They have impact. Influence. Power. Pausing to inhale this essence gives you the ability to form eloquent speech and clear communications.

Every breath you take invites engagement with…
Ansuz – Rune of the Sacred Breath, Words of Wisdom, and Divine Inspiration

True meaning is discovered while seeking knowledge, connecting with others, and exploring your spiritual side. Do this, and you become part of something much larger than yourself.

Runic Practice:

To align with the Rune of the Sacred Breath and Divine Inspiration, try these daily mental resets:

• The Sacred Connectivity Check: Before sending an important email or entering a meeting, take one deep, conscious inhale. Imagine this breath is your ‘signal bar’ connecting you to the divine dialogue. Use that moment between the inhale and your first words to ensure your communication comes from a place of clarity rather than just noise.
• The Idea Inhale: When you feel stuck or uninspired, stand by an open window or step outside. As you breathe in fresh air, visualize ‘Divine Inspiration’ as a cool, blue light entering your mind. On the exhale, release the fog of overthinking. Treat it like a mental reboot for your creative mechanism.
• The Sovereign Speaker Practice: Words have power. For one hour today, practice ‘Intentional Speech’ by pausing for a second before you talk. Use that tiny gap to decide if your words are going to serve, solve, or empower. If they don’t do one of those three, let them remain unspoken breath.

Bonus BindRune:

Combining the wisdom of Ansuz with Raidho - the Rune of Travel, Movement, and Balance - can provide you with a sense of purpose and connection when navigating unfamiliar terrain. Particularly useful for reminding you to communicate kindly and clearly as you attempt to find your way thru new territories.

People Properties:

The Ansuz personality is defined by a profound connection to communication, wisdom, and inspiration. A knowledge seeker, the Ansuz person yearns to grow and learn. Their natural leadership inspires others with creative expression – be it through speech, writing, art, or music. They are a beacon of clarity, integrity, and innovation.

Ansuz Affirmations:

"My voice is a powerful expression of my inner knowing. I think first – then speak my truth. When in doubt, breathe and listen."

RuneTip:

Use Ansuz as a focal point for reaching a state of deep mental inspiration when meditating, chanting, singing, or praying. This 4th Rune of the Elder Futhark is especially influential when combined with breathing exercises or hypnosis.

It’s dangerous out there. Your chances of being accosted have risen steeply.

So, what do you do when you perceive a threat?

Impulsively reacting with anger can backfire, leaving you in greater peril, and possibly inflicting harm on the undeserving.

As a thorn defends the rose by letting the aggressor’s own actions work against them - you can better protect yourself by standing strong, being master of your emotions, and observing any threat calmly and tactically.

Many bullies and instigators are short-sighted. Counteracting brutish force with intelligent precision requires a cool head and shrewd timing.

You needn’t be the biggest, baddest person in the room – just the one with the superior strategy.

Thus, in times of conflict and confrontation your best ‘Runic-Partner’ is:

Thurisaz – Rune of Defense, Assertiveness, and Directed Destruction.

Runic Practice:

To channel the precise protective energy of Thurisaz, try these daily alignments:

• The Bullseye Audit: Before starting your day, identify a persistent distraction or obstacle standing in your way. Visualize yourself as an Archer, drawing back a super-charged bow and releasing a burst of energy to clear your path. ‘Directed destruction’ is about removing what no longer serves you.

• The Lightning Bolt Visualization: Sit quietly and visualize yourself holding a longbow loaded with an arrow that crackles with electrical energy. Inhale, feeling the ‘tension’ of your own potential power as you pull back the string. Hold for three seconds, then exhale sharply, ‘releasing’ the arrow toward a specific goal you need to hit.

• The Thorn Hedge Boundary Shield: Thurisaz is the rune of the thorn – one of Nature’s best defensive mechanisms. In any difficult conversation today, imagine your words are as sharp and protective as thorns. Your stance is not aggressive, but simply assertive as you stand firm in your personal ‘fortress’.

Bonus BindRune:

Combining Thurisaz with Ansuz accentuates the importance of wisdom in facing challenges. The defensive qualities of Thurisaz benefit from the intelligence, clarity and insight of Ansuz. A bindrune of these two Runes blends thoughtful consideration with physical accuracy.

People Properties:

The Thurisaz personality is a complex blend of power, protection, and a willingness to confront challenges head-on.

Thurisaz people will fiercely protect themselves and those they care about, and can be a force of disruption, understanding that sometimes destruction is necessary for new beginnings.

Discipline and self-control - replacing recklessness and impatience - come to Thurisaz-people with maturity and lived experience.

Thurisaz Affirmations:

"I am the author of my own destiny. I pay attention before I act. I move with precision, I protect my boundaries, and I have the focus to hit my mark."

RuneTip:

Wear or carry Thurisaz as a reminder to observe first, then when ready, take action. One must understand a conflict before one can resolve it.

It’s early January and a brand New Year stretches out before us. As we’re deciding ‘what’ we want to accomplish in 2026, it’s also time to plan ‘how’ we’ll reach those goals and ‘why’ we’ll need the resources we’ll need to get there.

Starting a new cycle calls for a lot of energy and drive, doesn’t it? If ever there was an occasion to activate some ‘Runic-strength’, it’s now.

Clearly, it’s time for: Uruz – Rune of Brute Strength, Raw Power, and Unstoppable Stamina

Like a massive multi-vitamin, Uruz energy provides you with elemental oomph. Although this Rune is symbolic of the mighty Wild Aurochs of old, it’s about more than summoning your inner beast (although it is that, too!).

Uruz helps you muster the will to meet challenges and keep your spirits up as you push toward your dreams.

This Rune is a reminder to take care of your body - which includes maintaining good nutrition, healthy sleep habits and exercise.

Once you’ve covered these basics, Uruz can get you grounded, feeling your power and choosing where to concentrate it.

Runic Practice:

To adopt and direct the flow of Uruz vitality for yourself try these simple exercises:

Standing tall, strike a power pose: feet wide, shoulders back, spine straight, head held high, hands on hips (Think Wonder Woman or Superman). This switches on Beast Mode!

The Uruz Breath: inhale deeply into your belly, visualizing pure power rising up from the earth through your feet. Exhale, releasing all limitations.

Body Gratitude: Take a moment to thank your physical vessel for its strength. Whether you're lifting weights or lifting your morning brew, acknowledge the raw power that keeps you moving.

Daily Flex: Pick one tough task you've been avoiding and make it your first chore of the day.

Bonus BindRune:

A bindrune that pairs Uruz with Berkano builds physical health and endurance, honoring your wild, primitive side while nurturing growth and compassion. This is a good Runic combination to use when working with soil, plants, and landscaping.

People Properties:

Uruz people are independent and action-oriented. They possess the energy and grit to keep going when others might give up. Fiercely protective of their own freedom, they are also devoted guardians of their families and communities. Since they are sometimes untamed and impulsive, it’s important for them to maintain discipline and self-control. In everything they do, they are powerhouses to the core!

Uruz Affirmations:

"I am strong and capable. I don’t fear change! I have the stamina to manifest my wildest dreams."

RuneTip:

Carry Uruz as a talisman to gain mastery over any personal impulses that stand in the way of your progress.

As I look forward with hope and anticipation to a fresh start in 2026, I’m turning my attention to the very first Rune of the Elder Futhark, Fehu – Rune of Abundance, Generosity, Gratitude, and the Flow of Creative Energy.

Beginning a new chapter on our spiritual journey through the Runes is full of promise under Fehu’s watchful eye.

The significance of practicing gratitude and ‘giving back’ are two foundational teachings of the ‘Fehu Cycle of Prosperity’.

Runic Practice:

To improve the flow of Fehu-energy in your life try this simple exercise:

• Create a ‘Fehu Journal’ by drawing the Rune’s shape on the cover of a notebook.
• Write down your thoughts about the importance of sharing (money, resources, time, attention, etc.) and reflect upon how you feel when others share liberally with you.
• Make a list of things you’re grateful for today.
• Create a written plan for ‘paying it forward’. Be detailed: instead of saying “donate to charity”, write something specific like “I’ll bring blankets to the local animal shelter this month”.
• Sit and visualize the flow of this energy and these ideas as they enrich your life and the lives of the people around you.
• Make this a daily or weekly practice to reinforce your ‘Fehu Cycle of Prosperity’.

Bonus Bindrune:

A bindrune that pairs Fehu with Berkano supports your capacity to increase abundance via creativity. This combination promotes both material gain and emotional fulfillment through nurturing and steady effort.

People Properties:

Fehu people are responsible, creative, and unselfish. They sparkle with inspiration and vitality, excited to see hard work and enthusiasm shape their intentions into reality. They understand that true wealth includes a richness of experiences, relationships, and personal growth.

Fehu Affirmations:

“I am connected to the world around me through my kindness to others. I give and receive joyfully. I choose to focus on abundance and well-being every day.”

Rune Tip:

Carry Fehu as a talisman to attract prosperity, success, and material security, especially in fresh new ways.

All Hail! Twelfth Night - Happy New Year 2026!
December 31, 2025

For many centuries, Nordic and Northern European peoples have been celebrating 12 days of Yuletide - starting with the observance of Mothers’ Night on the night before Yule (the first day of Winter).

Twelfth Night culminates the observance of Yuletide, each day of which is intended to represent a month of the preceding year in miniature.

It's a day to reflect on the past year, take stock, and lay a course for the future. Resolutions, anyone?

Of all the nights of Yuletide, this one seems to be most closely associated with the tradition of wassailing, which includes singing, dancing, drinking, and the visitation of neighborhood orchards to bless them and ensure a good harvest.

As you celebrate on this Twelfth Night, make sure to give a toast to the people who came before you.

All that you do, and all that you have, comes from somewhere else and is infused with the touch of many hands and many cultures.

We always ring in the New Year with one hand reaching back, and one hand reaching forward, as the serious business and hopeful joy of being human continues...

Safe travels as you go.

¡Saludos!

Welcome to ‘RuneNotes’ – a weekly mini-MasterClass for people seeking knowledge and empowerment from the ancient wisdom of the Elder Futhark Runes, which have millennia of human history behind them.

Othala is the Rune of Home, Heritage, and Cultural Tradition.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the Winter holidays are often a time when families gather together in order to reflect upon the past through storytelling and remembrances. These final days of the calendar year are also a time when many people (remembering what the previous twelve months have taught them) set intentions and priorities based upon the following concepts and ideas:

What have you learned this year? How will you use it?
Are there lingering family issues to address?
What ingrained thought processes or opinions do you want to change?
What does 'Returning Home' mean to you?
How do your origins affect your identity?
You are the product of your ancestors. How do you honor them?

Othala represents our native roots, the place we call home, and the life experiences that shape who we are now and who we are becoming.

Picture Othala as a portal through which you can reach back to the wisdom and skills of your ancestors. What ideals and traits have you inherited, and what sacrifices were made so that you could exist?

Think about which traditions and morals you’d choose to preserve and pass on to future generations.

As the Rune of Tradition, Othala gives you the opportunity to examine your familial and cultural customs and decide for yourself whether to continue, reshape, or abandon these customs. You have every right to create your legacy as you see fit!

Many family-related difficulties – karmic debt, illness, interpersonal problems – can find a place of reconciliation or resolve within Othala’s sphere of influence.

If the legacy that’s been handed down to you is problematic, Othala gives you permission to make peace with old prejudices, hurts, and negative traits and leave that baggage behind as you reconfigure your concept of Self.

Family and tribal practices are forged over time, but that doesn’t mean you must adhere to old persistent patterns.

Othala people are excellent planners and hold a deep respect for history and culture. They think in terms of generations, not just years, and understand the importance of ancestral roots. They tend to be the keepers of family stories and genealogical data.

Othala Affirmations: “I am grateful for the life I’ve been given. I am protective of my home and loved ones. I understand the importance of tradition and community.”

Rune Tip: Othala, carried as an amulet, can be used when you’re trying to channel or develop abilities (especially spiritual ones) that your ancestors once had.

How can Othala reinforce your traditions or help you build new ones?

¿Qué has aprendido este año?

Protejo mi hogar y a mis seres queridos.
