Letâs talk about Massage, Depression, the function of the heart and how it affects your body and mood.
Every who knows me, knows I believe medication and surgery are a last resort and should never be used as the only option. I myself have witness so many holistic approaches to wellness that work and in my opinion are better for you. Specially for your mental health. No, I am not a doctor but I have witnessed myself that sometimes it can be something as simple as sunshine, a restart for your gut/a fast, some quiet time to reflect or just exist in the moment and not worry about the man made thing we call time. All things that have worked for me personally. I am not completely against medication or surgery. I believe that every factor in your life needs to be evaluated first before hand.
We live in a world now of âwhatâs convenient and a quick fixâ. Convenience is whatâs hurting a lot of peopleâs health. What we eat, what we do for relaxation, how many hours we work with no rest, our hydration and other things we choose to consume. What we think is a quick fix is actually just a band-aid, masking or covering symptoms of something in ourselves that still exists. Healing isnt a quick fix, healing is a journey, itâs apart of living, and you are worth that journey.
The Heart and how is can effect your nervous system and how your nervous system effects the heart.
The most important muscle in your body is your heart, which is an involuntary muscle. It works without thinking about it. The heart is influenced by the autonomic nervous system(ANS). To be specific, itâs the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions. they regulate heart rate and blood pressure. Your heart also has itâs own nervous system. which, is the intrinsic cardiac nervous system. It plays a role in cardiac function and can also communicate with the brain.
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS):
The ANS is a part of the peripheral nervous system that controls involuntary functions like heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion.
Sympathtic Nervous System(SNS)
This is the part of (ANS) of your body that prepares you for âfight or flightâ situations. Which increases heart rate or blood pressure.
Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS):
This branch of the ANS promotes "rest and digest" activities, slowing down heart rate and blood pressure.
Communication with the Brain:
The heart communicates with the brain through afferent (sensory) nerves, which carry information about the heart's activity to the brain.
The Brain and depression:
Depression is a common mental health condition characterized by persistent low mood, loss of interest, and other symptoms that can significantly impact daily life. The brain plays a crucial role in the development and experience of depression.
Research has identified several brain structures and neurochemicals that are implicated in depression:
-Prefrontal cortex
-Amygdala
-Hippocampus
-Neurotransmitters
***And i can go on and on and on.****âŚ..theres definitely more about this but you get the point by now. Iâm sure.
So think about it. If this nervous system is not in balance and your fight or flight is constantly activated. Then your parasympathetic nervous system is not helping you rest. What is your body going to feel like if all of this is happening?
High blood pressure, anxiety, depression, feel like you are being attacked but nothing is wrong.
So with that being said, Massage is a great way to relax and take you out of that fight or flight.
