The question I hear from people who reach out to me for fitness advice is always, "Where do I begin?" I wish there was a one size fits all answer, but people's routines and nutrition plans will vary, depending on their goals. However, if you're fairly new to your fitness journey, here are a few key tips:
1. Cut back on unnecessary sugars like pop or ice cream. Once you get into the habit of replacing certain foods with healthier options, you will crave them less. You can reward yourself occasionally, though. 😉
2. Eat balanced meals - loading your plate with protein, healthy fats, and yes... even propotioned carbs. Your body needs them to help fuel your workouts!
3. If you're trying to lose weight, bulk or cut, track your food intake and macros via an app like MyFitnessPal. Even on weekends, vacay and rest days.
4. Make sure you're staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water daily.
5. Stretch before you work out. Even for a few mins. This reduces injury.
6. Don't go too heavy with free weights or weighted machines when first starting a workout routine. Instead, use lower weight. Focus on your form and get your body used to the movements.
7. You'll be using muscles that you most likely haven't in a while and will feel it - a day or two afterward. So plan rest days and make sure you're getting adequate sleep. This allows your body to fully recover.
Now, let's get it!
