The Bucknell University Golf Course will host the first Tabby Welshans Memorial Golf Challenge on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 10am, with registration starting at 8:30am, in honor of Tabby Welshans. Tabby was a beloved Selinsgrove youth whose courageous life continues to inspire a community.
Tabby Welshans 11, passed away this past spring following a brave battle with an inoperable brain tumor. Her indomitable spirit, bright smile, and the joy she brought to everyone around her continues to live on in the hearts of family, friends, and all who knew her. The Memorial Tournament is a celebration of that spirit and a way to ensure her legacy endures.
Proceeds from the event will go toward establishing the Tabby Welshans Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a graduating Selinsgrove Area High School senior who embodies the kindness, courage, and community-mindedness that defined Tabby’s life. The first $1000 scholarship was awarded at this year’s class day ceremony to Hannah Rowe.
“The idea is simple but powerful,” said Simona Napoli Lovik, Owner/Manager of the Selinsgrove Dairy Queen Grill and Chill, and a member of the organizing committee. “We want to turn our grief into good. Tabby loved people, and she made the world brighter. Through this scholarship, we hope to light the path for future students just as she lit ours.”
Meghan Balum, W&L Marketing Manager, announced that participants in the tournament will have the opportunity to win numerous exciting prizes, including a new 2025 Subaru Forester valued at $34,000, generously provided by W&L Subaru, for the first person scoring a hole-in-one on the #10 hole during the tournament.
“This isn’t just a golf outing—it’s a chance to come together for a cause, to honor a child who touched so many lives, and to help a deserving student pursue their future,” Balum commented.
The event will feature:
• A four-person scramble format
• Breakfast and Lunch refreshments
• Welcome Gift Bags
• Raffle prizes and contests
• A special tribute to Tabby and her family
Golfers, sponsors, and volunteers are all welcome and encouraged to participate. Team spots and sponsorships are still available.

“Though her time with us was far too short, Tabby’s impact will be everlasting,” said Ms. Balum. “No setback could shake her faith and she taught us that true strength is not just in fighting but in smiling through the storm. She never let her illness define her; instead, she defined herself through kindness, courage, and an unwavering belief in something greater.”
“She was a little girl who showed us how to live fully, love deeply and face adversity with an unyielding spirit. Tabby may be gone from our sight, but she will forever be in our hearts … a reminder that the bravest souls often come in the smallest packages.”
