Graduation day is just around the corner. What an incredible day, this kid has worked so hard to get there. I’m so very proud of the person she is and all of her accomplishments. She never quit, she bent but never broke, and she always landed on her feet.

Portland wasn’t all bad, the views from the tram were amazing!
Aura saw a new larynx specialist, he’s positive he can remove the neuromas from her vocal cords and improve her voice. He said once that’s done he can place an implant on right side to help the vocal cord move over to help the left from working so hard. Exciting news after a year of doom and gloom.
Her 6 month scans show no new growth and no growth in the known metastasis.

Graduation is coming! All I did was blink and she grew from this curious 4th grader into an amazing young woman.

Exciting update. Aura was accepted into the men study at NIH. She will be participating to help further the awareness of MEN2B and improve testing and medical care as they learn more about how this syndrome effects the body. She will fly to the east coast at least once a year for several days of appointments with geneticists, ents and endocrinologists that have been closely studying MEN for many years. we are so thrilled to have this incredible opportunity to help advancement in understanding as well as auras own care.

Good morning. We’ve been busy getting senior pictures done and starting to fund raise for the senior class. Aura finished all her credits early and is planning to begin job shadowing with an awesome physical therapist, she hopes to start the college program in the fall.
For now all medical is in a holding pattern. She goes back for 6 month scans in April and will also see a larynx specialist to try to improve her voice and breathing as well as help her to eat easier. It’s been a whirlwind of a year!

I realized this morning that I haven’t posted in quite a while.
Aura is doing very well and spirits lately are high. She’s currently working toward a job shadowing position for physical therapy, wanting to help others learn to manage pain and to heal as she’s done. I’m so proud of her. She’s also worked incredibly hard to graduate early, finished all her credits 3 weeks ago! She’s now just waiting to walk with her class in may.

As far as cancer and MEN aura hasn’t had any new symptoms. Last scans in October showed nothing new. She is now on the 6month cycle of rechecking and watching. She will also add a speech and throat specialist to her list of doctors in April, who will hopefully be able to help her talk easier and maybe breath better. Currently she still gets very dizzy with minimal exertion and is left winded just walking from the car to the front doors of the grocery store. I’m hopeful that her awesome team of doctors will continue working hard to help her improve every day.

It’s been so long since I’ve posted, but summer has kept us busy.
Since surgery and recovery aura has done really well. Her breathing is better (than when I’m icu) but it’s not better than pre surgery. The loss of her vocal cord really has caused her to struggle. She works hard now to stay calm, and not over work herself.
She’s had a much better mindset these days, she’s working on positivity and goals with her counselor. Because of auras type of cancer the treatment plan is watch and wait, which has taken its toll on her spirits, thankfully she has a great team of doctors and a counselor that she has a good connection with.
Aura turns 18 this September 8th, and while most kiddos would be excited, aura is not. She says the idea of 18 is terrifying, and all her doctors are aging her out to the adult departments. She doesn’t want a party, or even a special dinner on her birthday. It’s hard for me to not want to celebrate her birthday, especially such a big one. But I think birthday cards and well wishes are just what she would love this year. Knowing she has an awesome support team and people that think of her will go a long way in boosting her spirits after such a difficult year.
