Goals...Why is it with every counselor they want you to make some goals? When we set a goal we are being intentional about the path we want to lay out for ourselves (see where this may be helpful for your therapist?) . From there you take little baby steps each day, week, month, etc toward that goal.
This is where I think we start to get tricked up with intentions or goals. Most of the time when a goal is made a deadline is set, and this can add unnecessary pressure. The focus then goes from the actual goal to the time it takes to complete the goal. There are some intentions or goals that we make for ourselves that just do not respond to a clock. It can take months or even years for some people to see the change they would like. But here is the thing the time it takes to reach that final goal doesn't take anything away from the effort and change you put along the way.
I challenge you today to make some intentions for yourself! What do you need from you? From there start walking down the path to get there, but remember it's going to take time get there.
