The jaw gets used and neglected and sometimes used as a head rest. There are four main muscles that open and close the jaw. We address two of these muscles in this post as the other two muscles are not easily accessible.

Pressure can be applied with the fingertips. Work this area gently as there are glands nearby that do not want to be pressed. Start at the base of the jaw near the backside and apply a gentle pressure inward. You can work the hands upward the cheek bone as seen in figure 1, staying near the backside of the jaw. I generally recommend using both hands at the same time in order to not push the jaw out of alignment.

Pressure can be applied with either the fingertips or the heel of the hand. Use whichever is more comfortable. The muscle fans from the temple to almost the backside of the head. You will have to press closer to the front of the head as seen in figure 2 and then towards the back of the head as seen in figure 3. As you apply a gentle pressure in toward the head you can then lift the hands slightly toward the ceiling to semi stretch the muscle. You can also apply circular or front/back motions for a varied effect. You must use both hands at once as to not strain the neck; the pressure must be equal. Additional techniques are detailed in figures 4 and 5.

Hi There! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ I am Jason Cain, welcome!
