Let’s not keep repeating the cycles that got us here.
Sending so much love to all the cycle breakers who are making changes and refusing to accept the harmful treatment that was the norm in so many of our families.

We remember.
Today we recognise that we are not alone, we share in this community to honour our loved ones and support each other. Thank you to Mike Purcell for creating this page, for all of the volunteers who have, and continue to, work on this project, and to you….the followers, the ones left behind, today is our day, we walk side by side on our journey, may we always be gentle with ourselves, find strength to share our stories to educate, raise awareness and give hope to others….we are grateful of all of you ~ PAFOS

Thoughts aren’t facts. Sometimes we have to reign in our overactive mind and remind ourselves of what’s real.
In practice, this is difficult. It’s like a muscle we have to continue to work until it’s strong. Like repetitions in the gym, we have to continue to question our thoughts and replace with reality.
Is this true?
What supports this thought?
What is counter to this thought?
What would someone I trust say about this thought?
If I reflect on this for the next 24 hours, will it still feel true?

A conversation with a client earlier this week prompted this post. Most people don’t actually know HOW to help someone having a hard time. Let’s change the norm! Out with “let me know if you need anything” and IN with practical action steps.

Hope For The Journey Therapeutic Services, PLLC opened it’s doors in January 2020, though it’s vision has been alive for many years!
Christen Murphy, owner of Hope for the Journey, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She offers individual, couple's, and family counseling both face to face and online to NC residents. She is a rostered clinician with the NC Child Treatment Program for TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and has experience working in community mental health as well as residential treatment. In her own words, “I opened my practice in hopes of further assisting my clients in their journey of living a life of happiness and fulfillment despite life's circumstances. Growing up in Ashe County, I knew there was a huge need for mental health providers and I feel honored and blessed to give back to my community through my work.”
Christen’s primary treatment areas involve navigating life's transitions, relationship concerns, women's issues, anxiety and perfectionism. She is also well versed in parent/child relationship problems, depression, and conflict resolution. She thoroughly enjoys working with adolescents and young adults. Christen also offers Pre-marital counseling through the Prepare/Enrich program.
“My style of therapy is informal and collaborative, implementing solution focused and strengths based techniques. I strongly believe that YOU are the expert on your life and your life's experiences, and because of this, believe that each client has the capacity within them to enact change. I work alongside my clients to assist with recognizing harmful patterns and thought processes that contribute to negative interactions and experiences. Together we will collaborate on how to create excitement and fulfilment in each day. My work incorporates attachment, humanistic, and systems theories.”
“I am a High Country native living with my husband and our two rescue dogs, Bear and Bo. I thrive in life with a little help from DIY projects, travel, couch hangs with my dogs, kayaking, and watching true crime documentaries.”
