A year ago, my best friend Doug Murphy was hospitalized with a blood clot that developed in his leg and traveled to his lung. The blood clot was severe enough that he spent a few days in the ICU and about a week total in the hospital. Doug incurred significant medical bills. This year in April it happened again. He developed a life-threatening pulmonary embolism in his lung. He was transferred to Aurora Medical Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He underwent a procedure to remove the massive blood clot from his lungs. He spent a few days in the ICU. The doctor warned him the blood clot they removed almost killed him. Doug will need to be on blood thinners the rest of his life.
Today on May 1, 2022, Doug is in the emergency room again as I am writing this. He was experiencing chest pains and pain in his legs. He called me to let me know that he is being discharged. No new blood clots were found. Thank God!
Doug has an appointment to see a specialist in the Hematology/Oncology department at the clinic soon. The exact cause of his blood clots remains a mystery.
Doug works for a large retailer as a cart pusher in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Being a cart pusher is a psychically strenuous job. He is currently looking into moving to a different position that will be easier on him. Doug and his family are facing financial hardship because of his mounting medical bills, even with insurance. He is still paying off last year's medical bill which he owes more than $7,000. This does not include the new medical bills he just incurred in April.
Doug lives in a household with 7 other family members. Most of Doug's earnings goes towards the household budget. Doug normally purchases most of the groceries. As we all know, this has become more of a challenge with the current inflation and high gas prices. Doug also has car payments and other day to day living expenses.
Two boys in the family are autistic and require extra care and supervision. "Uncle Douggie" has always gone out of his way to make sure those boys have what they need. Doug always puts other's needs before his own almost to a fault. He has a big heart.
I, as Doug's best friend created this campaign because he is a good guy and is too shy to ask for help. I am asking for your help on his behalf. I have been friends with him for over 30 years.
The money donated will go directly to Doug Murphy towards medical bills, medicaton and daily living expences.
