These last few weeks have been filled to the brim with work and stress. But in January, bakers rest. So just cranking it all out as much as I can for the next two months.
1. Hand blending my custom bread flour mix.
2. I've had this Fitbit since the last week of August and I've already walked 250 miles, just working.
3.&4. Started wholesale back up after getting inspected in a commercial kitchen. I missed those professional relationships and I never thought I would miss them.
5. Snickerdoodle cookie bars, one of the cookie bars available for wholesale. (it's the best.)
6. Put up my tree before Thanksgiving, because I love sparkly things and pink
7. Visited my Mamaw in assisted living right before they were moving her to the nursing home side. I helped her up from the chair and she said, "When did you get so much taller than me?" I'm 5'7" and she used to be 5'8" but she has a spine issue now and she's about five feet tall.
8. Finally prepping all that popped sorghum for snacking and selling at the markets.
9. Winter market has officially started and the themes are adorable per usual.
10. Went to visit my brother and told him all about my year and how much I miss him. 🩷

It’s hot. It’s cold. It’s soup season. It’s pie season. It’s fall, apparently. 🍂🍲
Markets have been draining, sales have been moody, and burnout is just out here doing its thing (I've had three total days off since May 11th). Sunday markets are officially getting the boot next year because I’d like to have one day where I’m not covered in flour. Here’s to hoping the holidays bring more pie, less chaos, and some long overdue time with the people I love.🥧🍪🥖🧇🍩🍫🥞

Just some pictures over the last couple of weeks! Trying to squeeze the last bit of veggies out of the garden (drought killed the pumpkins despite all my watering). Plus, market life, making pizza sauce, my coffee consumption is through the roof, and some teeny pinto beans that made it (it's a miracle 😂). Oh, and my Fitbit step count, which seems to be the norm lately. 😺🍕🍁😵‍💫😴

Self care doesn’t have to be complicated ✨ My go-to comfort crew? A massage gun for when my muscles hate me, a lotion that saves my hands from sandpaper status, and slipper sandals that make my sore feet feel like they’re at the spa (even if I’m just in my kitchen). 🛋️💆‍♀️

Breakfast this morning was a leftover slice of dill pickle focaccia, cheddar cheese, and an avocado that was on its last day. I'm not into food waste, so I eat whatever needs to be eaten every day.
I wasn't always this way, though.
I come from a large family where there were no real leftovers. We were hungry, athletic, teens and kids who ate all the dinner (as fast as we could) and then raided the pantry every night. (Trust me when I say we had PLENTY of food, we also just all ate like linebackers).
When I got to college, with roommates, and made too much food for myself, I threw the remainder in the trash. One of my roommates asked why I didn't just save the leftovers and I said, "I didn't realize you could save leftovers. We never had leftovers."
After that, I started to think differently about food and waste and thirty years later....my diet is mostly dictated by what needs to be eaten next before it goes bad.
So, here is my dill pickle focaccia avocado cheesy toast. It wasn't my fave, but I'm full. 😉
Classic Focaccia recipe is on the website, but if you want to make it dill pickle then omit the oregano and basil and add your fave sliced pickles before baking. It's great, as long as you don't turn it into avocado toast 😉
