Protecting your hearing isn't just about avoiding loud noises - it's about giving your ears the daily care they need to serve you well. Here are 5 simple habits that can make a real difference:
1️⃣ Follow the 60/60 Rule
Keep device volume at 60% for no more than 60 minutes per day. This is the safe threshold audiologists recommend to prevent further damage.
2️⃣ Face Away From Wind
When outdoors, position yourself so wind isn't hitting your ears directly. Wind creates low-frequency noise that forces your ears to work harder and can leave you feeling drained.
3️⃣ Take 5-Minute Hearing Breaks
Every hour, step away from noise for just 5 minutes. Your ears need this recovery time, especially when they're already working harder than they used to.
4️⃣ Wait 48 Hours After Showering
Don't clean your ears right after showering. Wet earwax is softer and removal can push debris deeper - let it dry naturally first to avoid complications.
5️⃣ Turn Off Background TV
Constant background noise forces your brain to work overtime filtering sounds. This leads to the exhaustion many of you feel by evening.
Remember: Small changes add up. Caring for your hearing isn't about what you've lost - it's about protecting what you have and staying connected to the people and activities that matter most.
