Throughout August, Aveanna is proud to recognize Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Awareness Month. This important awareness event is an opportunity for us to spread awareness about the disease and highlight the experiences of those who live with it.

SMA is a hereditary neurological condition that causes muscles to progressively become weaker, eventually leading to issues with activities such as eating, walking, and breathing. SMA affects about one in every 15,000 births in the United States.

Aveanna patient Carter had a blast this summer, and now he's excited to head back to the classroom for another great school year!

As he begins his last year of elementary school, Nurse Dora will be by his side at school to ensure he can learn, thrive, and socialize in a safe way. Last year, Carter won the school pull-up contest, and we can't wait to see all the amazing things he'll do this year at school!

For Aveanna patient Anthony and his nurse, Shakirah, care goes far beyond the bedside.

After being born prematurely, Anthony has encountered different challenges in his medical journey including intestinal failure and liver disease. He lives with a G-tube and a central-line, yet with everything he's dealt with, his sweet smile and active personality shines through.

Nurse Shakirah came into Anthony's life over a year ago, and her care is all he has ever known. With her pivotal role as part of his care team, she ensures he can run, crawl, and play like any other two year old while staying safe and healthy at home. The care she provides has given Anthony's family the optimism that their loved one can thrive with others his age and navigate any other obstacle that might come his way.

Welcome to Aveanna, Priscilla!

As a military service member, Priscilla's mom knew she needed the right support for her family's unique needs. Priscilla is a mono-di twin and was diagnosed with Intrauterine Growth Restriction, Atrial Septal Defect, and Ventricular Septal Defect. She needed a home care team that understood not only her health challenges but also TRICARE and the ECHO program.
