What is Fanconi anemia?
Fanconi anemia (FA) is an inherited DNA-repair disease that may lead to bone marrow failure (aplastic anemia), leukemia, and/or solid tumors.

This affects the body's ability to repair the DNA. Unfortunately this is not curable. He will face a long road of multiple specialists to manage its effects on every part of his little body.

"This is our 10 year old son Lane Bender. Lane was recently diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia, a rare disease which causes bone marrow failure that results in decreased production of red and white blood cells and platelets. He is going to need a bone marrow transplant. And constant monitoring for multiple aggressive cancers.

Lanes blood counts have continued to drop and he is needing blood transfusion, but doctors are waiting as long as possible to do one. He hasn’t yet had a blood transfusion yet and it is preferable that he does not. A transfusion could lessen the chances of success of the bone marrow transplant.
The bone marrow transplant process is going to be rough on him. He will have to undergo 30 days of chemo at Duke University Hospital prior to the transplant and then remain in the hospital for two months after the transplant while hopefully his new marrow will begin to function properly and not be rejected. Afterwards he will need to stay near the hospital for another 3 months for close monitoring.
I am reaching out to my family and friends on Facebook and asking you to join me in prayer for Lane:
+ for a good sibling donor match
+ for increased blood counts and no need for transfusion prior to the transplant
+ for a successful transplant and bone marrow that will produce strong and healthy blood cells that will allow him to live long and thrive
+trained eyes to catch any and all cancers as quickly as possible
+for no infections prior to the transplants
Thank you for praying with me."
