When conventional vet care doesn’t bring lasting relief, what’s next?
🐾Today I was invited to check on a sweet kitty who has battled uncomfortable respiratory and ear issues for most of her life.
After countless appointments and prescriptions, her humans were left with empty wallets and the same lingering problems.
We’re now focusing on building her wellness from the inside out with targeted feline nutrition and gentle, pure essential oil support.
🐈If your cat is stuck in a cycle of recurring immune struggles, there are other options. Sometimes a thoughtful, natural plan is exactly the missing piece.

💁♀️Hi, I’m Jamie. I teach practical, helpful education on holistic pet care- nutrition, routines, safe natural tools, and the red flags that mean it’s time to call your vet. If you want to support your pets at home without getting overwhelmed or doing anything risky, you’re in the right place.
Comment with your pet’s name + age, and what you want to improve most.
PS. You are also welcome to check out my personal page Jamie Kasarda where I talk about all the things I care about such as holistic healthcare, family, pets, good food, crochet, and homeschooling.

🐾 What’s Really in Pet Food? New Study Reveals Hidden Contaminants
A new 2026 study from the University of Ioannina looked at 65 popular cat and dog food brands — and the results might surprise you. Using advanced lab screening (HRMS technology), researchers found a mix of unseen contaminants in most products:
*77% of samples contained mycotoxins (natural toxins from mold), especially in dry kibble.
*72% of dry foods had pesticide residues, compared to only 11% of wet foods.
*Plant compounds with hormonal effects (like phytoestrogens) showed up in over half of samples — more often in cat foods.
*Pharmaceutical traces (like antibiotics) appeared in 1 in 4 dry feeds.
*Researchers say dry, grain-heavy recipes had the highest contaminant mix due to agricultural and storage factors.
While the study didn’t measure toxicity levels, it’s a wake-up call for better ingredient sourcing and quality checks in the pet food industry.
🧪 Bottom line: even premium-looking feeds can carry hidden chemical baggage. Choosing clean, minimally processed pet foods — and brands that test for contaminants — helps reduce risk.

If my brand had a mascot… it might be me + a floof + a tiny oil bottle 😂🐾🌿
I’m here to help pet parents use natural supports safely (without the overwhelm).
Should I make a whole series of these for my topics? Oil safety, raw feeding, gut health… vote in the comments!

With over 20 years of experience, Jamie combines best practices from veterinary medical practices with holistic, natural approaches.
Before turning to a holistic lifestyle, Jamie’s health suffered for many years. By experiencing the transformative powers of natural wellness, she started teaching and coaching others to do the same. Soon after, Jamie started utilizing her knowledge to help animals that weren’t responding well to modern veterinary approaches. Although she was professionally trained and credentialed in modern veterinary medicine techniques, she found holistic homecare approaches to be more practical, affordable, safe, and yet still effective.
Finally, in 2016 Jamie received her calling — Holistic Pet Mentor!
Through pet care mentoring, private wellness consults, and essential oil workshops, Holistic Pet Mentor allows her to continually share her passion and knowledge and use it to serve others.
With a vision of raising animal shelter standards, Holistic Pet Mentor donates 80% of its profits to provide training and resources to shelters looking to optimize animal health and reduce euthanasia. By helping your pet, you will also save other pets that don’t yet have forever home.
Jamie worked as a licensed veterinary technician for 12 years, head surgery technician for five years at an animal hospital, a cumulative of eight years as an executive director and grant writer for an animal shelter, and undertook a major relocation and building campaign to improve animal welfare in South Central Pennsylvania. She also facilitated and participated in the Franklin County Animal Rescue Team, volunteered with the Red Cross as a pet first aid instructor, and chaired the Veterinary Assisting Committee at the Franklin County Career and Technology Center.
Most importantly, Jamie is a wife and mother of two children and a feline fur baby, Buddha.
