Tripp's Road to Recovery Tripp was diagnosed with a brain tumor on July 1st.

He's a fighter and we are doing everything we can to get him back home where he belongs with our family together again.

In case you missed my last post for Tripp on my personal page, here's an update.

Tripp’s recent MRI showed that his brain tumor has doubled in size. Because it's inoperable, we were told he would need to start chemotherapy. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind of appointments — labs, scans, heart tests, eye exams, meetings with oncology — all to prepare for next steps and determine the best treatment option for him.
He was eligible for a study with two possible treatments:
• a standard IV chemotherapy option, and
• a newer targeted medication (a MEK inhibitor) taken by mouth that specifically targets how his type of tumor grows.

We were really hoping he wasn't randomized for the standard chemotherapy because he would need a central line with weekly infusions in Madison for a year and a half. Not to mention the side effects.

After all the testing and waiting, UW called today to tell us Tripp was randomized to the targeted medication, Selumetinib. Tripp was so happy!! We’re incredibly grateful for this outcome and hopeful it will help slow or stop the tumor’s growth while allowing him to keep as much of his normal life as possible.
Tripp continues to amaze everyone with his strength, resilience, and smile.

We have to wait until the medication can be delivered from the cancer institute but UW said he would probably start this Friday. He will take the medication twice daily for 27 months and be closely monitored with labs, MRIs, and other scans frequently.

Another STABLE scan in the books ❤️

Tripp had a quick MRI today and everything looked good!! He will be getting full MRI's done yearly, and quick MRI's done every 3 months. Tripp continues with his physical and occupational therapy in Dubuque twice a week. In July, he will be going for an appointment at a brachial plexus clinic with the hopes that a surgeon who specializes in pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery, can repair, replace, or transfer the nerves that have been damaged which can restore sensation and motor function to his hand/arm.

He's worked really hard this year and has progressed tremendously in so many ways. Summer is almost here and I'm excited for him to be active and outdoors. I have signed him up for private swim lessons and summer rec, which he's really excited about. We will be camping as much as possible at our seasonal site.

You have all been there for our family for over a year now and we are so grateful. But now, I need all the positive thoughts and prayers we can get for Stan Wood. He has been battling Covid with everything he's got but he is declining. His body is tired. Please, stop and take a minute to send him healing thoughts. His family and friends need him back home. ❤❤❤❤

Tripp's MRI went great. The tumor has not changed since his last scan. His surgeon explained to us that often times children with neurological issues can have weakness after being sick. Tripp was needing to use the wheelchair at school and was having an increase in falls there as well.

Dr. Iskandar did say that instead of doing a full MRI in November that we could wait until January and continue doing the quick MRI which is great news. Full MRI days are awful because he is put under and intubated. We spend most of the day at the hospital. A quick MRI is 5 minutes and I'm allowed to be right next him. We call it a spaceship. So for now he gets to continue doing the quick MRIs and the full one is pushed off until spring!! Awesome :)

Tripp is going to be starting therapy in Madison in November. We are hoping to go once a month and then add PT and OT locally. Right now he is getting therapy through school but he needs more.

New haircut and the tooth fairy came last night!!❤

We are headed to Madison for a MRI. Tripp has had a few changes so we just want to be thorough. Hoping I'm just being overprotective. It's hard not to worry about every little change. If everyone can think positive thoughts we can hopefully keep the chain of stable scans going! ❤

Also, I just wanted to thank everyone working with Tripp at school. You guys are excellent. Your awareness of what needs to be reported to me is outstanding. ❤

Suggestions please!!

Tripp started with a fever on Tuesday which lasted until early Thursday morning. He seemed to be getting better but had a considerable amount of fatigue. No fever on Thursday or Friday but the fatigue continued. This morning he woke up with a nasty cough and noisy breathing. I had Bob run to Walgreens in Prairie to get an OTC Covid test. It's positive. This poor kid can't seem to catch a break. I definitely feel like his immune system is weakened due to living in a bubble for the past year which causes me to worry he is going to struggle fighting this.

So if any of you have had Covid, or know of someone that has, please leave a comment with suggestions to help Tripp. If you don't have any helpful suggestions, please keep him in your thoughts.❤
