đź’› Tripp Update đź’›
In case you missed my last post for Tripp on my personal page, here's an update.
Tripp’s recent MRI showed that his brain tumor has doubled in size. Because it's inoperable, we were told he would need to start chemotherapy. Since then, it’s been a whirlwind of appointments — labs, scans, heart tests, eye exams, meetings with oncology — all to prepare for next steps and determine the best treatment option for him.
He was eligible for a study with two possible treatments:
• a standard IV chemotherapy option, and
• a newer targeted medication (a MEK inhibitor) taken by mouth that specifically targets how his type of tumor grows.
We were really hoping he wasn't randomized for the standard chemotherapy because he would need a central line with weekly infusions in Madison for a year and a half. Not to mention the side effects.
After all the testing and waiting, UW called today to tell us Tripp was randomized to the targeted medication, Selumetinib. Tripp was so happy!! We’re incredibly grateful for this outcome and hopeful it will help slow or stop the tumor’s growth while allowing him to keep as much of his normal life as possible.
Tripp continues to amaze everyone with his strength, resilience, and smile.
We have to wait until the medication can be delivered from the cancer institute but UW said he would probably start this Friday. He will take the medication twice daily for 27 months and be closely monitored with labs, MRIs, and other scans frequently.
