🌱 Meet Baxter, Resident Therapy Dog! 🌱

Baxter is M. Alden Lyons’ loyal and lovable resident therapy dog who has been part of private practice since March 2022. Alden adopted him when he was three years old from a local dog rescue program. Baxter completed an intensive training program where he learned obedience skills, how to socialize with other animals, and how to play and enjoy being a dog.

Baxter may look large and a little intimidating at first glance, but he has a gentle spirit and a big heart. He’s calm, loving, and incredibly intuitive. Clients find comfort in his quiet presence during sessions, he’s happy to offer a nudge, a paw, or simply sit close while you process your thoughts and emotions.

He’s been joining Alden at work regularly, though he gets the perk of choosing whether to come along or enjoy a day off at home. On his off days, he loves playing with his younger brother, who’s in training to follow Baxter’s pawsteps as a therapy dog one day.

Baxter plays a special role in creating a warm, welcoming space for healing. We are glad to have Baxter on the team with us! 🌱

Meet our other therapist, Alyssa Garza, MS, PLPC! 🌱

Alyssa is a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) in Louisiana. She earned a Master of Science in Counseling with a concentration in Rehabilitation Counseling in 2024 from LSU Shreveport.

Alyssa is a proud military brat but has lived in Shreveport-Bossier for the past 7 years. She is passionate about mental health advocacy and has collaborated on various projects that promote mental health awareness and increasing access to mental health care.

Clinically, Alyssa has worked in university settings, intensive outpatient programs, and veteran-focused spaces. Her experience ranges from helping veterans navigate substance abuse recovery and housing insecurity, to supporting students and adults through anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. As a Mexican-American, Alyssa is extremely passionate about working with individuals from marginalized communities and is committed to meeting individuals with empathy, cultural competency, curiosity, and without judgement.

Meet the owner of IAT Counseling Services and therapist, M. Alden Lyons, MS, LPC-S, NCC!

Alden was born and raised in the Shreveport/Bossier area and has always felt a deep connection to the community. She earned her Master of Science in Counseling from LSU Shreveport in 2014 and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Education and Supervision at the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans. Alden is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor in Louisiana.

Her counseling journey began in the field of addiction, initially working with gambling disorders before transitioning into substance abuse treatment. Over the years, her experience has grown to include helping individuals work through depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues.

As a mother and someone who has navigated complex family health challenges and major life transitions, Alden understands how overwhelming and isolating life can feel at times. She believes that many factors—like poor coping skills, unresolved grief, communication difficulties, or past trauma can contribute to feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Her goal is to help individuals identify and work through the barriers that are keeping them from living a more fulfilling life.

Alden utilizes evidence-based approaches and is also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which helps clients process and heal from trauma in a safe, supportive environment.

Meghan has years of office experience and is ready to answer any admin questions you may have. Although not originally from the South, Meghan is warm-hearted and ensures the details behind the scenes are taken care of. Outside of the office, Meghan is passionate about nature, spending time cooking, and enjoys creative projects.
