Sierra Vista Citizens Fire Academy

Sierra Vista Citizens Fire Academy The Sierra Vista Citizens Fire Academy is a 9-week program offered on Thurs evenings starting Thursday Aug 24th. Applications are due Fri Aug 18th.

Every year by attending the Citizens Fire Academy, Sierra Vista, AZ area residents can gain first-hand experience of what it’s like to be a firefighter and paramedic in the Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services’ upcoming Citizens Fire Academy. At no cost, participants in the academy will learn about this exciting profession in the classroom and through hands-on training covering areas like search and rescue, firefighting, fire prevention, emergency medical services, and safety practices that can be applied at home and in the workplace. The academy will include the opportunity to ride with duty crews responding to real emergency calls.

“There’s no better way to get a sense for what your local firefighters do and how your fire department operates,” says Capt. Bob Fields, Citizens Fire Academy coordinator. “You’ll also walk away with knowledge you can apply at home and at work to be better prepared for emergency situations.”

The Citizens Fire Academy starts in September, and runs for nine weeks. Participants will meet each Thursday night from 6 to 9 p.m. Applications will be available soon for the 2017 class. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. To apply, pick up an application from any Sierra Vista fire station or download it online at www.SierraVistaAZ.gov by searching for “Citizens Fire Academy.” Once completed, applications can be turned in at any Sierra Vista fire station. For more information, contact Capt. Bob Fields at (520) 417-4400.
