Is FDA approval important to you?
( copy pasted from a friend in LinkedIn)
🚫 Here's a list of food that's banned in other countries...but the FDA says is totally fine. 🤦♂️
🐟 Farmed Salmon - Aside from being gross, it's fed astaxanthin to maintain its color (This petrochemical is banned in Australia and New Zealand)
🥛 Milk from cows treated with rBST or rBGH hormones (Remember when that was a thing?). Banned in Canada and the EU. Totally legal in all 50 states. 🙄
🥫 Mountain Dew, Sq**rt, Fresca, Fanta and other citrusy soft drinks have Brominated Vegetable Oil in them. Bromine can build up in the body and potentially lead to memory loss and skin and nerve issues. Banned in Japan and the EU. Totally legit here. 🤦♂️
🍗 Chlorinated chicken. You read that right. We do it in the US to try to kill diseases and salmonella. It's banned in the UK and EU because it "promotes unsanitary farming practices".
🐷 Ractopamine is a food aditive that encourages muscle growth in livestock. Because of human health and safety concerns, it's banned in over 160 nations (including the EU, Russia, and China. ...It's used in upwards of 80% of the pigs in the US.
🟡🔴 Food dyes (especially Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and Red 40) - They're now permitted in the EU, but they have to carry a warning that they cause adverse effects in children...so the US puts them in children's snacks like Little Debbie Swiss Rolls, Skittles, Gatorade, Pop Tarts, Lucky Charms and other cereals, sodas, Jell-O, and other fun kiddie snacks.
🤤 BHT is a flavor enhancer used in everything from chewing gum and frozen foods to cereals and dry and processed meats. It's banned and Japan and the EU because of its potential carcinogenic properties, but the evidence is inconclusive...so it's probably fine, right? 😅
🍞 Bread containing potassium bromate. Potassium Bromate is used to help strengthen bread dough and create a higher rise...but it's linked to cancer, nervous system damange and kidney damage, so it's banned in the UK, Canada, Peru, and many other countries...but the FDA knows best, right?!
