It’s hard to believe I’ve practiced medicine in the DMV for nearly 2 decades. It’s been incredibly rewarding for me to care for the thousands of patients I’ve been given the privilege to treat.

As I further narrow my focus on fibroid health and minimally invasive treatment options for patients, I’ve expanded my team of specialists.

Dr. Sarah Swartz and I are members of The Center for Pelvic Health and Gynecology which is a subdivision of CWC. She is a fellowship trained minimally invasive surgeon who specializes in endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain.

We look forward to further expanding our team in the future so that we can continue to provide the truly specialized care that patients deserve. Be sure to visit our new office which is expected to open up later this year!

Fibroids suck… being told your only option for removal is a vertical midline incision sucks even more.

This is a patient who found me on an online fibroid support group. She was told by multiple providers that her only option was a large incision, extending from her p***c bone to her ribs. She drove for several hours for her consultation.

I tell all patients there is a chance that I may need to make a larger incision, but I always say I’ll try my best to make as small an incision as possible. I also mention that sometimes my final point of fibroid removal may change depending on my exam under anesthesia.

When this patient’s fibroids were removed, one bucket wasn’t enough to measure the final weight of specimen extracted. In the end, she had over 12 pounds of fibroids and tissue and luckily I was able to take everything out through her belly button.

The first picture is the two buckets of tissue being weighed, and the second is her incision with a dressing immediately postop .

Fibroid suck, but their treatment options don’t have to. If you’re being told your only option is a large incision, then consider getting a second, third or even fourth opinion. Minimally invasive options are possible. It’s just a matter of finding the right provider who will give you that option.

2025 has been filled with many exciting new changes and opportunities. Being at the midpoint of my career, I decided it was time to really get out of my comfort zone and make some very difficult decisions.

I am grateful for all the blessings and support that I have received and I look forward to many more years of continued growth, development and service to my patients and my community. Come on 2026 let’s do this!

When cases don’t start on time, sometimes I wander the halls. It was great running into so many familiar faces from med school and residency.

It’s crazy to think that not so long ago we were a bunch of students and the new Docs on the block and in just the blink of an eye we’ve become the senior Docs on staff, managing partners of practices, and the leadership of our departments.

In 2017, I made my first IG post after attending the Americans Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists Global Conference in Washington, DC. This past week I was able to attend the same conference but this time in Vancouver, BC.

It’s amazing to see all that has changed in the field of gynecologic surgery and what’s in store for the future. What was once considered sci fi is now a reality.

What really made the conference worthwhile was catching up with colleagues and hearing about their accomplishments and connecting with individuals who are pushing the boundaries of progress. It was also inspiring to see what former students and residents have been able to achieve.

A common theme was the importance of embracing technology and that progress occurs when individuals think outside of the box and challenge the status quo.

We don’t know what we’re truly capable of accomplishing unless we push our limits. Let’s see what we can do!!!
