A proud moment. I asked our language explorers what this animal is in Spanish, and one blurted out PAVO (turkey)!
The animal is not a pavo but a CONEJO (bunny).

So why was I proud?

Because this wasn't a random guess. The student recalled from a previous class project of building "running pavos".

With the language tools the young learner had, they put an animal word to the picture. This is a glimpse showing that little by little these kids are building an internal Spanish language system. They are making connections, taking risks, and using what they know to participate in second language communication. Next step: learn more animal words!

Check out these engineering skills from our Spanish + STEAM class!

Our learners explored Spanish opposites while designing and testing toothpick towers to see which structures could hold eggs of different sizes and weights. Some eggs were grande y pesado (big and heavy), while others were pequeño y ligero (small and light), giving students an extra engineering challenge as they compared which towers were strongest. Through building, testing, and redesigning, they practiced new vocabulary in a meaningful hands-on way:

alto / bajo — tall / short
fuerte / débil — strong / weak
grande / pequeño — big / small
rápido / lento — fast / slow
ancho / delgado — wide / thin
pesado / ligero — heavy / light

Feeling proud of these young engineers. A favorite moment was reviewing our Spanish vocabulary by acting out the words together. We made ourselves grande y pequeño and showed rápido y lento through movement, and brought new language to life.

STEAM + Spanish in action 🚗💡

Today’s challenge: “Vamos a la casa de los abuelos… pero tenemos un problema. El carro está malo.”

So what do we do? We build one.
Students used family vocabulary while solving a real problem:
How can we make the car go más rápido? Go más lejos?

They tested ideas, made changes, and communicated along the way.

Spanish vocab + critical thinking + creation = dynamic language learning that keeps kids engaged and thinking.

Our learners explored family vocabulary by creating their own popsicle stick houses. Inside, they drew and labeled their family members in Spanish, then practiced introducing their families to the class.

✈️ Passport to Spanish Camp — Registration Now Open

Pack your curiosity and get ready to explore! At SpanOut Learning’s Passport to Spanish Camp, young explorers will travel to a new Spanish-speaking country each day through hands-on activities, music, language, and creative projects.

From Spain to Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina, Cuba, and more, campers will collect passport stamps while discovering foods, animals, traditions, and everyday Spanish vocabulary from around the world.

Each session is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence with Spanish, and keep kids engaged through interactive learning and creativity.

Schedule: Monday–Friday • 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Dates: June 15 – June 26 (2 weeks)
Early drop-off available

🍽️ This week in enrichment: Meals & Spanish food vocabulary

Our learners explored desayuno (breakfast), almuerzo (lunch), y cena (dinner) while practicing how to talk about what they eat each day. We focused on building simple, confident sentences like:

“Para la cena como…” (For dinner I eat…)

Through creative food-building activities, students connected language with hands-on creation while using vocabulary such as pollo (chicken), ensalada (salad), espaguetis (spaghetti), and more. The imagination and language risk-taking this week were wonderful to see.

Let’s go shopping at the supermarket!

Role-plays are incredibly powerful in language learning, especially when they’re playful and hands-on. Pull out your Spanish food vocab list and try these simplified conversations at home together!

These kinds of exchanges are perfect for younger learners who are just getting started. If you don’t already speak Spanish, you can learn right alongside your child. 💛 Language grows beautifully when it’s shared.

Our SpanOut Language Explorers paired these conversations with mini shopping baskets and tiny food cards to bring the experience to life. My favorite part is always watching the kids try out new words and getting a feel for what it's like to say them!
