Rest is not just sleep. Neurodivergent nervous systems work harder, and many of us never learned the types of rest we actually need. This post is adapted from the work of Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith, who identified seven core types of rest that support real recovery.

Whether you are masking all day, overloaded by sensory input, mentally exhausted from constant problem-solving, or simply worn down by being “on” all the time, you deserve rest that restores you.

If this resonated, you are not alone. Learn more at Valley-High Counseling in Simpsonville, SC.

Healing isn’t just about sleep or pushing through exhaustion. For neurodivergent people, rest looks different—and there are actually seven types of rest our brains and bodies need to function, recover, and thrive.

I just published a new post breaking down the 7 types of rest in a simple, accessible way, including how to recognize what kind of rest you’re missing and how to get it without needing a full day off or a vacation.

If you’ve been feeling drained, overwhelmed, or constantly “running on empty,” this one is for you.

Read it here:

Rest is more than sleep. Learn the 7 types of rest neurodivergent people need for real recovery and nervous system healing.

💡 Helper Highlight: Financial Support That Gets It 💡

Money management can be one of the biggest stressors for ADHDers and trauma survivors — not because of irresponsibility, but because executive function challenges, avoidance cycles, and financial shame can all get tangled together.

That’s why I’m so glad to add the Greenville Financial Empowerment Center to our local Helper Highlight list! They offer free, one-on-one financial coaching for budgeting, debt reduction, credit building, and more — no judgment, no sales pitch, just real support.

If traditional financial advice feels overwhelming or shaming, this might be a game-changer.

Because getting support with “adulting” tasks isn’t about weakness — it’s about creating space for the life you actually want to live.

Those thoughts are not your fault. They are not a sign of weakness. Dealing with thoughts of ending your life is heavy, and it's often an invisible battle fought alone.

You are not alone. Tell someone you trust. Get help. Go to a nearby ER, call or text 988, call a NAMI crisis line, or a crisis line more specific to your struggles.

This has been an incredibly dark chapter; page by page, day by day, the sun will rise again.

Sometimes we learn that anger isn't safe because of how people around us have acted when angry. Other times we learn that it isn't acceptable because the people around us are fearful of it. Your anger is sending you a message that something isn't right, that something you care about is in danger, or that something isn't fair.

For ADHDers (and honestly, most of us), the hardest part of adulting often isn’t doing the task — it’s all the remembering, organizing, and starting. That’s why I’ve been spotlighting local helpers who make life a little lighter.
So far we’ve featured:
🧺 Laundry services
🥗 Meal prep & personal chef options
🧹 Home organization & cleaning
🧰 Home remodeling & maintenance
🌿 Lawn care
🚗 Mobile mechanics
🤱 Doulas & family concierge services
…and this week’s new addition: 💻 Tech setup and digital organization help!

If you’ve ever wanted someone to wrangle your devices, set up automations, or clear your inbox chaos — this one’s for you.

Because getting support isn’t a failure of independence — it’s a strategy for sustainability.
