Hilltop Apiaries

Hilltop Apiaries Hilltop Apiaries is a producer/packer of pure wildflower honey serving the New England area. Find us in local grocery stores or shop online 24/7. Then the bees.

You can also Subscribe & Save. IT ALL STARTED WITH ONE HIVE...ON HILLTOP DRIVE. Our father started his backyard gentleman’s farm with a few chickens. Next came the goats. That one hive, over ten years ago, has turned into a thriving honey-producing/packing business. Hilltop Apiaries maintains hives on 8 family-owned farms throughout the Farmington Valley. We extract our own pure wildflower honey and partner with other beekeepers who follow the same responsible beekeeping practices. Together, we serve customers throughout the US and, with our partner, Farmer’s Bee, provide pollination services to several orchards in our area.

In the spirit of celebration, we bring you four crazy honey-related facts you won't BEE-LIEVE!

•There are nearly 20,000 known species of bees worldwide, 4,000 of which are native to the United States

•A single-worker honeybee produces approximately 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime. That means around 22,700 bees are needed to fill a single honey jar!

•In 2012, archaeologists discovered "the world’s oldest honey"! It was found in ceramic jars in Georgia, the country – not the state, and is estimated by scientists to be about 5,500 years old!

•Honey comes in various colors and flavors – including blue or purple! States located in the southeastern region of the United States are known to produce purple honey, which is incredibly rare. Some beekeepers go their entire lives without ever encountering it.
