It occurred to me that many people may not be aware of nurse mare programs. Cold Spring Nurse Mares is an amazing group and this story is too precious not to share. Happy Saturday ♥️
We have very exciting news to share about Lexi and her c**t! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
This little guy is 3 weeks old, he had a very traumatic start to life.
He was finally cleared to have a nursemare at 2 weeks old- never had nursed a mare.
Lexi adored him the moment she saw him, her love for him was priceless, he had to be taught by the staff at the clinic how to find the bag, latch on and nurse.
Well, after a few days- he found the bag, and he latched on but with his teeth!
Poor Lexi was a total champ, correcting him over and over and never loosing her cool with him.
Days went by and tensions grew as everyone wondered would he learn to actually properly suckle at now 3 weeks old!
Well- today is the day we got the news!! He has figured it out and will be leaving the hospital to go home with his most amazing Lexi showing him the ropes!
To ask a young mare to go into an ICU environment with a very sick foal is incredibly stressful, then to tolerate him nawing on her t***s over and over for days is unimaginable.
Lexi- you are a pure gem sent from above who truly saved this foal’s life.
This my friends is why we do what we do! All our stories are special in their own way and occasionally we get one that goes against all odds and this little guys is just that! 🕉
