Here are some of the professional techniques we use regularly that improve efficiency, deliver consistently better cleaning results, and ensure we are cleaning safely:
๐ผ Change cloths frequently
Using a clean cloth for new tasks ensures youโre removing grime rather than redistributing it. This also reduces the risk of accidentally mixing cleaning products.
๐ผ Fold cleaning cloths into sections
Dividing a cloth into squares provides multiple clean surfaces, helping to prevent the spread of dirt and bacteria.
๐ผ Vacuum firstโeven in bathrooms
Vacuuming sinks, tubs, and floors removes hair, dust, and debris before wet cleaning, preventing buildup from turning into more of mess. Be sure to use the correct attachments so you don't scratch the surfaces you vacuum.
๐ผ Dry clean before wet cleaning
Always begin with dry dusting or vacuuming, followed by damp cleaning for a more effective finish. That said, also remember to work top to bottom whenever possible. For example, there's no sense in washing the floors before you wipe down the countertops.
๐ผ Use dusting products thoughtfully
Many products can leave residue over time. In some cases, a quality cloth alone will produce better results.
๐ผ Use a pumice stone for stubborn residue, especially in toilet tanks on hard water rings.
Pumice stones are effective for removing tough buildup. Always test a small, inconspicuous spot first though.
๐ผ Simplify oven rack cleaning
Place racks in a sealed garbage bag with oven cleaner and allow them to sit in a warm area, outside if possible because the fumes can be a lot. This helps break down grease and buildup with minimal effort. Rinse extremely well afterwards.
๐ผ Remove buildup from cabinet tops efficiently
After degreasing, a scraper tool can safely and quickly lift stubborn residue. Plastic razors work extremely well without risking cutting into the tops of the cabinets.
๐ผ Be extremely mindful you don't mix chemicals & always, always have sufficient ventilation
For your safety, as well as that of your clients, their children, and their pets, don't mix chemicals. For example, bleach + ammonia=mustard gas. When you have to use multiple cleaners in the same room, (such as glass cleaner on mirror and frames, a different product for tub/toilet), keep the area well ventilated utilizing fans and windows, and never close yourself into a room.
๐ผ Spray the cloths, not the surfaces
Whenever possible, and especially when using stainless steel cleaner and furniture polish, spray the cloth, not the surface. You'll end up with less product on the floor, and more evenly distributed product.
These small adjustments can significantly improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of your cleaning!
