DID YOU KNOW? Here's an interesting fact. Did you know that places like Massage Envy are known on the inside as "approved providers" and can train any individual for a minimum of 200 hours in the basics of massage therapy...and as long as that individual has "practiced" massage for 2 years full time or 5 years part-time, that individual may acquire a license to practice massage and bodywork in NJ. No massage school required! What exactly does this mean to you? If you or someone you know uses these Kmart types of places for massage therapy, you may be saving money but you are being absolutely robbed of the knowledge and training that therapists like myself have worked so hard to obtain. Massage school is necessary. It takes a full year and it is not easy. Its almost like med school. We learn everything there is to know about the human body and its anatomy...the muscles...the organs...the brain, heart and spinal cord and so much more. We learn about physiology, we train, we get tested and re-tested. I remember sitting in a lab with a bucket of clay and a putty knife, waiting to see which muscles we had to build from that clay onto a two-foot skeleton. We also needed to fulfill 100 hours of our 600 hours massaging the general public, as licensed therapists stand over us and evaluate our technique. It goes on and on. Under 45:11-75 of the NJ Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy Laws, where its clearly titles "certain practitioners eligible for licensure without satisfying education examination requirements", all you need is ONE THIRD of the training, no school and no examination. I'm not done with this 'case' yet, but in the meantime, ask yourself: Do you really want any person off the street who merely got back-door training, didn't go to school or was never tested on massage and bodywork to touch your body? I didn't think so. Call me for a real, SAFE, quality, effective, knowledgeable no-nonsense massage....and feel the difference!
