Here at Pediatric Medicine we are proud to offer 7 day a week office appointments (sick call from 9-1 on weekends) and after hour access to one of our physicians 365 days/ year. As we enter a busy season of illness we want to remind you of our availability as well as the things we can and cannot do after hours.
We CAN answer ANY urgent questions that cannot wait until the next morning.
We CAN help you decide if an injury or illness should be seen in the ER emergently, or if we can manage it in a way that avoids the ER (thereby cutting down on the ER being full of non urgent issues).
We CANNOT schedule sick call appointments for the next day
We CANNOT prescribe medications (such as antibiotics) without the patient being seen in a sick call
We CANNOT refill standing medications, even if you are all out of them
Finally, we want to remind you that in the mornings our physicians are rounding in the hospital, and we want to allow them uninterrupted time to meet with families of hospitalized children and then safely make their way to the office. Therefore calls made in the hour before the office opening will be held for the nurse to return when she arrives. Of course any urgent matter that cannot wait can be forwarded to the on call physician.
We wish you all a healthy, happy and safe holiday season, and know that we are here, ready to help, if you need us.
